In a world chasing spectacle, designer Sweta Gurmeet Kaaur is crafting a legacy stitched with bold ideas and precision. The mind behind Uorfi Javed’s iconic Cannes look and her go-to designer on Follow Kar Lo Yaar, Sweta has long redefined Indian fashion. Their latest triumph? A programmable, tech-integrated dress that blooms open on command an unapologetic statement now etched on the global stage.

Sweta shares,

“We’ve worked on several tech-integrated pieces before, but this one truly pushed boundaries. Designing a programmable dress that could mechanically open and close like blooming petals was one of the toughest yet most exciting challenges we’ve taken on.”

What made the achievement even more remarkable, she explains, was the intense time crunch:

“The Cannes appearance got locked in at the very last moment, so we had extremely limited time. A look like this, with such intricate embroidery, usually takes over two months — but we managed to pull it off in just five days.”

Sweta credits her dedicated team for making the impossible possible.

“We had around 30 artisans working non-stop, day and night, just on the embroidery. Every petal was hand-done with precision to give it that beautiful, layered rose effect. Coordinating that with the mechanical structure underneath — while still keeping the outfit wearable and glamorous — was not easy at all.”

Despite the chaos, the final result exceeded expectations.

“It was extremely challenging, but when I saw the final result, I knew all the madness and sleepless nights were worth it. My team really gave their heart to this piece, and it turned out exactly how I had envisioned — bold, unique, and unforgettable.”

Choosing Sweta for such a global appearance wasn’t a random decision — it was built on years of collaboration and trust.

“Honestly, she could have picked anyone, but our bond is special,” Sweta says. “I’ve been exclusively designing for Uorfi, and there’s a deep level of trust between us. She shares her vision with me, and I bring it to life — we truly work as a team.”

This partnership isn’t just professional — it’s personal.

“Around three years ago, we both dreamt of creating a moment like Cannes or the Met Gala together. That shared dream, trust, and creative sync is what made this collaboration so meaningful for both of us.”

While the dress never graced the official Cannes red carpet, it didn’t need to. It went viral on its own, dominating fashion headlines and social media conversations.

“The dress caught massive attention on its own, and that speaks volumes,” Sweta reflects. “I truly believe that when your work is powerful, it transcends the stage — it becomes the moment.”

“Of course, a platform like the Cannes red carpet adds to the glamour, but in our case, we didn’t wait for the ‘perfect’ moment. We created it. The design spoke for itself and reached the right people, both in India and internationally. That’s what matters most — impact. Yes, it would’ve been great to showcase it on the red carpet, but the fact that it created such a buzz without it only proves that when the design is strong enough, the dress is the stage. We made our moment and, in many ways, made history.”

With fearless fashion and unwavering friendship at the core of her journey, Sweta Gurmeet Kaaur isn’t just designing clothes — she’s designing moments that make the world stop and stare.
