5 Indian Celebrities Who Have Had A Brush With The Law

Bollywood has always been home to its fair share of controversies. From big stars like Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, who have had very public run-ins with the Indian legal system, to smaller celebs like the AIB founders Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhat, and more landing themselves in a lawsuit – Bollywood has never really been a stranger to the judicial systems in the country.

 

The lives of these celebrities are already under immense scrutiny from the public. In some cases, however, the public sometimes takes it too far and even files cases against celebs for the very art that has made them famous. From commercials to performances, everything is fair game!

While most of us know about the biggest and baddest cases – in this article, we want to take a look at some of the Indian celebrities who have managed to land into trouble with the law, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Here are 5 Indian Celebrities who have had a brush with the law!

1. Govinda

Yes, this 90s King of Comedy has been called to the Indian court. That’s because he slapped one Santosh Rai, an onlooker who happened to be harassing women on Govinda’s shoot. While many argued that Govinda did the right thing, Santosh Rai filed a court case against the actor for assault and criminal intimidation.

2. MS Dhoni

Cricketers are no less than a Bollywood celebrity, with their massive fan following as well as the number of TV endorsements that they land. One such advertisement landed the beloved Dhoni in trouble.

His portrayal as the “God of Big Deals” on the cover of India Today magazine, got him an FIR that claimed that he was trying to mimic Lord Vishnu, hurting the religious sentiments of the public. India Today later approach the Supreme Court to get the issue resolved.

3. Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan has often been hailed as the champion of social issues in India, with his contribution to shows such as Satyamev Jayate lauded by the public. However, when he made the controversial remark that India is “intolerant”, there was a huge outcry against him.

In fact, he was slapped with various legal notices and FIRs, which also led to him being fired as the brand ambassador of the “Incredible India” campaign.

4. Virat Kohli

Here’s another example of a cricketer who has always been a fan favorite and has nevertheless managed to land in trouble for some of his work. Virat Kohli, along with the South Indian actress, Tamannah was in trouble for endorsing betting apps. This plea was filed in the Tamil Nadu high court. However, many Indian celebrities have been known to endorse similar betting apps so it may seem that Virat Kohli was simply unlucky.

5. Saif Ali Khan

The Nawab of Bollywood has also seen his share of rides to the Indian court. He has been involved in a few legal matters – one, where he was booked for assault against a South African businessman in a Mumbai restaurant, and another was the infamous blackbuck poaching case, which also roped in Salman Khan, Neelam Kothari, Tabu, and Sonali Bendre.
