Bushra Ahsan – Behind every success, there are those who stand by you

Former American First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” For entrepreneur and philanthropist Bushra Ahsan, that statement is true in life. She had a dream, and what she envisioned is now her reality.

Bushra started her entrepreneurial journey with her husband at age 23 with $500 as seed money. Today she is the owner and founder of SWB Freights Inc, Awan Transport LLC, and a third company, which specializes in logistics.

“My entrepreneurial journey has been long, but a fun one,” she says. “Over the years, I’ve learned many things, met many great people, whom I now call friends and most important of all, I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.

Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Bushra moved to Canada at age 15. She graduated with a specialization in Accounting and Political Science. Bushra lives in White Rock, BC with her husband Ahsan, two daughters Sophia and Laraib, and her son Haroon.

Apart from business, Bushra is very passionate about women’s empowerment and works with various organizations in the community.

She is the Secretary-General for the Pakistani Women Canadian Society (PCWS). PCWS has been working on the grassroots for over 11 years. Bushra learned a lot from the amazing women in that association. As its SG, she moderated educational events with provincial and federal ministers and senators on the panel.

Bushra supports The Citizens Foundation (Canada) that runs welfare education programs for underprivileged children in Pakistan. She works in liaison with the Pakistan Consulate in Vancouver and will be serving on the Board for Canadian Pakistani Trade Council. She also holds various positions with local festivals such as VISAFF, Pakistan Festival Vancouver, and Vancouver South Asian Fashion Week.

This year, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Canada wing elected Bushra as the Woman Secretary-General, BC. PTI is the current ruling party in Pakistan.

Bushra has another dream: She wants to start her nonprofit in Pakistan to create awareness and acceptance towards transgender and to help women and transgender become financially independent.

She believes her achievements are a testament to her resilience, her faith in God as well as support from her family.
