We are living in unprecedented times of Covid19. The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on the healthcare profession, national healthcare systems, and our individual responsibilities – for our own health and for the vulnerable in society. World Heart Day is celebrated on 29th September of every year. It is aimed at drawing people’s attention to heart illness and the range of associated health issues.

The day is commemorated to promote different preventative steps and changes in lifestyle to avoid any cardiovascular diseases, like heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and any other condition related to the same. On average, more than 17 million people die from heat-related illnesses every year. This is more than that of people who die from HIV, malaria, and cancer. People with heart disease and its risk factors are more vulnerable to severe forms of COVID-19, and up to 1 in 5 patients hospitalized by COVID-19 have evidence of heart muscle injury.

In our blog for World Heart Day 2020, we look at a selection of studies registered at the ISRCTN registry that are investigating heart health and COVID-19. Keeping this in mind International Singer and Ace Painter Soumita Saha dedicates her artwork “throbbing Vivacity” as a strong gesture to join #UseYourHeart to fight the COVID-19 movement.
