The beauty community is snowballing these days, and there are researches going on continuously so that we can receive the best for our skin, and so does our awareness grows, and we know what is good for our skin and what not.

One such blessing is microneedling, a new discovery that can do wonders for our skin. Here we are throwing detailed light upon this new procedure of skin-beautifying called microneedling, aka Collagen Induction Therapy.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that claims to beautify your face. It is specially made to target an area of your face, but you can also use it on other parts as well. Basically, microneedling is a procedure similar to dermarolling, which contains small needles. The purpose of these needles is to puncture your skin. Yes, that is quite true; this process contains the part of puncturing the skin of your face. It sounds bizarre, and it is also quite painful because you are literally pricking your skin.

You might be wondering how pricking your skin can make your skin healthy and glowing apart from making your face bleed and leaving it with bruises. The science behind this is that when you prick your skin, it stimulates the generation of new collagen and skin tissues. The collagen will layer a new skin which will be healthier because it is new. The new skin tissues will give a smoother, firm, and toned up skin.

This treatment also helps with scars, wrinkles, pimple and acne marks, large pores, and other such things. This process of microneedling is not a new thing. It was practiced in ancient China but has now been popularized via various social networks like YouTube and Instagram and has also been made available in the form of a device that we now know as Dermapen.

These Dermapens have micro-fine needles, and the length of which can differ from 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters. These needles only enter up to the surface level of your face. So, when used generously, it does not harm your skin and does not cause any bruises as well. This procedure breaks down old tissues and triggers the production of new elastin and collagen for healthier and glowing looking skin.

The benefits of microneedling include the following:

  • Increases the blood flow or circulation due to the pricking, and therefore the skin looks plumped up and glowing.
  • Helps with early signs of aging by preventing wrinkles and fine lines and also removes the already present wrinkles and fine line by forming new skin layer.
  • Helps with cellulite and appearance of stretch marks.
  • Boost hair growth which means that you can also use it on your scalp. It will boost up the dormant hair follicles.

The process of microneedling can give you both temporary and long-run results. In temporary results, it plumps up your skin, increases blood circulation, thus making it look healthier and glowing. Its effect on wrinkles, fine lines, scars, etc. can be seen after quite some time, say a couple of months because it requires the formation of new skin tissues, which, for obvious reasons, requires a generous amount of time.

How to Microneedle Face at Home?

The whole process of microneedling itself sounds so dangerous and painful that you would not give a thought of doing it at home. But the access to such devices can help you in doing this procedure at home. These devices are the Dermapen or Microneedling Pens. At-home microneedling pens became famous after people started to realize that it is easier than what you think, and it can change your life as well. All you need to do is follow the below-given steps.

Step #1 First of all, you need to choose the device or the derma roller. The needles are of great significance. The needle cartridges come in a variety of length range, but for a start, it is recommended to start with smaller length needles. It will also work as a test as to whether your skin conforms with this procedure. The long needles will go deeper into your skin and can also cause some bruises as well. Although for intensive scars and marks, a long needle is required, as stated above, for a start you should use a small length needle. Also, do a patch test as it is a necessary step.

Step #2 Secondly, you should always prep your skin and the device. Preparing here refers to cleaning your skin. Deeply clean your skin with a cleanser and pat dry it, this will soak your skin, and the process will be smoother. You can also use a numbing cream if you think that the pain will be intolerable. Clean your needle cartridge with a 70% isopropyl alcohol. This is such an essential step because your skin is going to get opened, and if not cleaned properly, it can cause infection.

Step #3 Start rolling the device vertically, horizontally, or diagonally upon your skin. Roll each area for 2 to 3 times and remember to lift the roller after every roll. Do not push the pen too hard, do this process with a light but firm hand.

Step #4 After you are done with the rolling part, clean your face with water, and pat it dry.

Step #5 Apply a face serum on your face to recover from the pricks. Use a good quality serum.

Step #6 Soak your needle in the 70% isopropyl alcohol for 10-15 minutes and keep it in a hygienic place.

Note: You should use the same microneedling pen and replace needle cartridge after 4 to 5 sessions.

At-home microneedling is such a blessing and also cost-effective if done in the right way. After all, a session with a clinician can cost you anywhere from $100 to $700 depending on the dermatologist, and of course, you would want to go for the best because otherwise, it can cause severe damages to your skin.

Also, even before doing this procedure at home, you should take the guidance of an expert to check whether this procedure will do you any harm. Mostly, a pregnant lady or someone who had surgery or is in any medication should avoid this procedure or should first ask an expert. This procedure requires patience but will surely give you the best results.
