R&B Singer CYOKILO’s In Love Official Video Out Now. Singer/songwriter formerly known as Gifty Singh had his first break when he auditioned for Drake’s Producer Noah “40” Shebib in Toronto at the age of 17. The Remix Project Incubator & 40 saw his avidity and propelled his skills into the musician, writer and visual creative we know today; CYOKILO.

“Self-confidence and Vulnerability”

From humble beginnings, CYOKILO walks a fine line between self-confidence and vulnerability. The acronym stands for carrying your own weight; in other words believing in yourself, your talent and potential.

Born in Punjab, son to conservative household and opportunists; Gifty was en route to a better life in Canada. In 1994, upon arrival his family’s fate was met with some horrific circumstances – he needed an outlet; through unraveling this trauma came about his need to express and develop his passion for writing and music. In high school, this desire motivated him to cultivate his skills through Jazz, Opera and Suffi vocal coaches in the city.

Gifty recounts “both of my parents worked 12 hr shifts for 6.25/hr supporting 3 kids… I barely got to see them”. At this pivotal time, his tenacity towards music and adolescence clashed at home consequentially getting him kicked out or as he put it “.. I ran away from home.” By 16 he says “I cut my hair without telling my parents..” a sacrilegious practice left him unhinged, but after nothing was the same!
