Mou Sultana And Brooklyn Shanti Release Bengali Trap Song “Bam Bam”

Mou Sultana and Brooklyn Shanti release Bengali trap song, “Bam Bam”
BROOKLYN, New York, September 13, 2019 – Bengali singer/songwriter Mou Sultana and South Asian hip-hop pioneer, Brooklyn Shanti, have teamed up to create the first release from Brooklyn Shanti’s forthcoming album Brooklyn Bangla.

Fusing the Bengali language with forward-thinking styles of music has been a hallmark in both the careers of Sultana and Shanti. To that point, in 2012, the pair collaborated with Indian EDM super-producer, Nucleya, on an episode of Star Network’s the Dewarists, creating the genre, Bangla Bass. As caretakers of their own musical category, the pair continued to record over the course of the last seven years and have released the first result of their collaboration today.

Known for her role as an independent and uncompromising spirited artist in Bengal, when asked Sultana says,

“I wrote like I do about intense stuff from perspectives that are problematic,” adding “I always think beyond boundaries and labels.”

Taking on subject matters reflective of the current geopolitical landscape, Sultana sings in Bangla from a feminist stance

“I can be a soldier too / I can go to war everyday / I can wear my armor, no hesitation / Just like how I can make you laugh out loud / and forget your worries”

About the composition and chorus of the song, Brooklyn Shanti commented,

“I wanted to create something uplifting while Mou and I dropped some heavy lyrics – I was looking to stay optimistic, like when Sister Nancy invoked the phrase Bam Bam: You’re bringing trouble, we’re bringing this.”

Next up for the duo will be the release of a music video for the song, which was shot on location in an Irish castle. Directed by MASS Ideation’s Miguel Sanchez, a version of the video will be released in augmented reality. Behind the scenes footage will be featured on the next season of Brooklyn Shanti’s YouTube series, #BrooklynBangla.
