Pinterest Launches a New Collection of Supportive Resources on their App

For many, Pinterest is much more than just a website or an app. It is a world of inspiration. A place where you can find the spicy curry recipes to the exquisite wedding decor ideas. And the best part: after rummaging through thousands of pins, you find the ones that will spark the most special memories in your life for years to come.

However, life is not always inspiring nor is everything on the Internet. According to this press release, millions of Pinterest users in the last year have made searches related to emotional health. And in the effort to make supportive resources accessible for those Pinners, Pinterest has introduced a new collection of well-being activities on their app.

These wellness activities were created in partnership with faculty from The Stanford Brainstorm Lab for Mental Health Innovation, and with advice from Vibrant Emotional Health and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Furthermore, the activities help users improve their mood and include practices such as deep-breathing and compassion exercises.

Under no circumstances will these practices replace professional care. However, it can provide support to those who are feeling depressed, anxious, or sad.

On the Pinterest app, users will receive the option to explore these resources after they have made searches related to mental health. For example, searches such as “work anxiety”, “stress quotes”, or even “depression” will prompt them to engage with the wellness activities. And if someone is searching for something suicide-related, they are directed to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

As of now, this experience is only available to everyone in the United States who has the Pinterest iOS or Android app. In the future, Pinterest “hopes to bring this experience to all Pinners”.

This is just one example of what companies are doing to make emotional wellness resources more accessible for people who seek support. More collaboration between the healthcare and technology industries can result in measurable outcomes for the future.
