Pankit Thakker joins to bolster the idea of 'Swachh Bharat' movement!

After the recent Nirbhaya Nari Shakti Awards 2017, on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, Pankit Thakker’s name has been synonymous to creating awareness for social causes. Recently Sushmita Dev; Lok Sabha MP sought help from Pankit Thakker to join her in asking Shri Arun Jaitley, the Finance Minister to make sanitary napkins tax free under the new GST regime.

When we asked Pankit on this issue, he confirmed the same and gave us an interesting outlook on the same.

“Condoms and contraception are tax free in India, but the sanitary napkins used by millions of women are not. Women have to use sanitary napkins every month. They are a necessity not a luxury. Taxing sanitary napkins is like taxing women for being women. Think about it! If condoms and contraception are tax-free to promote their use for health reasons, so should sanitary napkins.

This is a great initiative and it has all my support as this move will impact millions of girls and women in India. It will make sanitary napkins cheaper for the middle-class families and make them affordable to low income families for the first time.

Girls and women face a lot of stigma and embarrassment around menstruation. They should not be burdened with a tax that makes safe, hygienic products more expensive. And the upcoming GST bill is a key opportunity to make this happen.

Some people might feel awkward about this and ignore it. This is why I am lending my support!”

Let’s make sanitary napkins cheaper and more accessible for millions of Indian women.

This step will only bolster the idea of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao‘ and ‘Swachh Bharat‘.

Pankit has taken a pledge for the future of millions of Indian women and is helping this cause in finding more people to reach the goal.
