Urban Asian's Top 10 Hindi films of 2016!

2016 was actually a pretty great year of extraordinary good cinema! Every year as I reflect and make this list of the ‘top ten’ makes me realize how much our industry has genuinely progressed since the time I began reviewing films.

1. Neerja – 5 Stars

Having Sonam Kapoor play the role of Neerja Bhanot was an excellent choice, and I couldn’t see any other actor from b-town playing such a role. Today I saw a part of Sonam none of us have ever seen before. Every expression, every action, and every emotion was magnifying.

Neerja

2. Udta Punjab – 5 Stars

The Abhishek Chaubey directed film had to be one of the most affective, dynamic, and reckless films I have ever seen.

Udta Punjab

3. Dangal – 4.5 Stars

Do you remember fifteen years ago sitting at the edge of your seat feeling all sorts of nervousness while watching the 2001 Aamir Khan film Lagaan? Today I had the same exact feeling while sitting in the theater fifteen years later watching his film Dangal.

4. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – 5 Stars

I cannot stress enough and say that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is most definitely Karan Johar’s best film till date.

5. Dear Zindagi – 5 Stars

Reviewing a film like Dear Zindagi almost is impossible to do. But I feel so fortunate to be part of the generation of Indian Cinema that is bringing such films to the big screen..

6. Kapoor & Sons – 5 Stars

KNS is one of those good-feel, yet realistic films. Almost any person can relate to this film.

7. Sarabjit – 4.5 Stars

Sarabjit is a must watch film. It not only conveys how powerful one voice can be, but it also displays hope, courage, and fight.

8. Baar Baar Dekho – 5 Stars

I was sucked into Nitya’s perception on time and life.

9. Pink – 4 Stars (not reviewed)

When a person doesn’t speak, that itself expresses a million words, and Pink projects this very well in the eyes of women who are fighting for justice.

10. Airlift – 4 Stars

A beautifully told story, showing realism and practical reaction from the common man or woman.
