Om Shanti Om Sing-Along Screens As Part Of BFI India On Film Season

The BFI’s eight month India on Film season continues at BFI Southbank in May with Music in Indian Cinema: Song and Dance. One of the highlights includes a sing-along screening of the critically acclaimed, box-office hit ‘Om Shanti Om’ on Friday 12th May, 6pm. Audiences will get the chance to immerse themselves in the full, Bollywood glory and iconic soundtrack of this cult, periodic romance.

Featuring a mix of love, revenge and reincarnation, ‘Om Shanti Om’ was one of 2007’s biggest releases in India and internationally, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film at the time of release. This effervescent love story, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, spans rebirths, parodies Bollywood over the decades and will leave cinema-goers on a cinematic high. Anthemic songs by composing duo, Vishal-Shekhar are elevated by stunning choreography, while the crowd-favorite Deewangi Deewangi sing-along song pays tribute to the who’s who of Bollywood. Among family and friends, the audience will get a chance to belt their voices and dance in the aisles, as their favorite Bollywood stars appear onscreen.

‘Om Shanti Om’ director, Farah Khan, is one of the most successful female directors worldwide. Starting as a choreographer, Farah found mainstream success turning out major box-office hits such as contemporary classic, ‘Om Shanti Om’.

As part the UK-India Year of Culture, the BFI has embarked on a celebration of Indian film throughout the rest of 2017. Co-curated by BFI Head Curator Robin Baker and writer and programmer Meenakshi Shedde, the BFI’s India on Film program is running at BFI Southbank from April – December 2017.
