Rashmi Mann, who delivered a breakout performance as Nikki in the Amazon Prime Video thriller Khauf, opens up about the deeply transformative journey behind the role — one that pushed her emotionally, creatively, and even physically. From embracing an immersive process to boldly shaving her head for authenticity, Rashmi’s experience reflects her unwavering commitment to the craft she has chosen.
Life, she says, has been nothing short of enriching.
“Life has been lovely — full of learning, a few ups and downs, and many changes. But every bit of it has felt worthwhile.”
This sense of grounded optimism has carried her from her early days in modelling to taking on an emotionally heavy and complex character like Nikki.
To bring Nikki to life, Rashmi surrendered fully to the character’s inner world.
“It was an immersive experience. I spent days in pyjamas and hoodies, keeping to myself and slipping into Nikki’s mind.”
She even learned to play on her partner’s Nintendo Switch because it was part of Nikki’s personality. The role seeped into her daily life —
“I found myself stuttering in private, sometimes even in public. My posture changed. People perceived me differently.”
Some days were emotionally heavy because of the intense scenes, and on those days she allowed herself to rest, cry, sleep, and let go.
One of the most striking transformations came from a decision many actors shy away from: shaving her head. Rashmi Mann was offered the option of wearing a wig, but she felt that going bald was a more honest commitment to Nikki.
“It felt like a small and meaningful offering to the character,” she says. Practically, wigs can be uncomfortable and distracting — something she didn’t want while working on such a layered role. Personally, she was curious. “I wondered what it would feel like to be without hair — how water would feel on my scalp. There was a strange sense of freedom in the idea.”
Surprisingly, she had no regrets.
“I live quite experimentally — even if something feels like a mistake, it teaches you something.” She discovered she could carry off a buzz cut with ease, and some friends even found it chic. Laughing, she adds, “Maybe it’ll be my retirement haircut someday.”
The actual moment of shaving her head was filled with emotion and intention.
“I was nervous, but I treated it like a small sacred offering — the way people shave their hair at a temple as part of a mannat. This role was a dream come true, and shaving my head felt symbolic.” She reminded herself of a simple truth: “It’s just hair. It grows back.”
As for what’s next, Rashmi is embracing a phase of openness.
“Right now, I’m in an open and hopeful space. Several things are in motion, and I’m trusting that the right stories will find me at the right time.”
Rashmi Mann’s journey with Khauf is a testament to fearless artistry — a willingness to transform, surrender, and explore without hesitation. Her dedication to Nikki has not only elevated the character but has also positioned her as one of the most honest and compelling performers to watch.
