Blending rock and roll with Indian classical influences and his Telugu roots, Hyderabad/London-based artist Alluri is redefining Indian rock with his latest record, Andar Ka Janwar. The EP, a bold exploration of inner chaos and existential themes, highlights Alluri’s evolution as a creator while staying true to his raw and eclectic musical style. With contributions from music legends Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) and Andy Burrows (Razorlight), Andar Ka Janwar pushes the boundaries of Indian rock on a global stage.
The EP features three distinct tracks: the blistering Hindi anthem “Andar Ka Janwar,” the darkly humorous Telugu song “Chastavu” (also recorded in Welsh), and the Beatles-esque exploration of personal demons, “Mr. Munchedo.” Speaking about the multilingual approach and the unique blend of influences, Alluri says, “Rock & Roll got me playing the guitar and falling in love with songwriting. Hindi is a language I’m familiar with, and a few lyrics slipped through my songwriting cracks while living in Mumbai. The audience will tell me if it has resonated, provided it reaches them through the mucky internet.”
Complementing the EP are visually striking, cinematic music videos crafted like short films. The Chastavu video offers a satirical dive into themes of consumption and excess, while the Andar Ka Janwar video portrays a surreal living room gathering that takes an unexpected turn. Alluri collaborated closely with director Milan Rathod and producer Ananya Rane to bring these visuals to life. Explaining the creative process, he shares, “The video is essentially an exploration of the darker sides of the human personality and its effects on our behavior if we let them go unchecked.”
Since debuting in 2015 with Man of Truth, Alluri has carved a niche for himself with his multilingual songwriting and collaborations with industry legends.
