The love for Piya continues… Piya (Zobu Remix) is out now. Featuring the haunting melody and Hindi lyrics of the original song that launched Rita as a solo artist back in 2013, Zobu’s interpretation of the song has a lo-fi feel with a subtle DnB vibe, leaving the listener yearning for more.

Here’s a few words on how the remix came about:
Zobu: I first came across ‘Piya’ in 2013 and was instantly drawn to Rita’s vocals. Her ability to seamlessly blend cross-cultural influences, alongside a vocal range that carried the weight of emotion effortlessly, was a unique quality. Fast forward to the summer of 2024, I began working on a remix to ‘Piya’ and uploaded a short snippet on Instagram. A few months later, I received a message from none other than Rita herself. She had stumbled upon my remix and wanted to collaborate to develop it into a full song. This was an opportunity I couldn’t pass. To be able to work with a uniquely talented artist like Rita and to reimagine a song that I had heard almost 12 years ago, really felt like a full circle moment.

To mirror the sentiment, Rita felt the same when stumbling across the snippet last year. ‘I simply could not resist to check out Zobu and his work. I was taken back at how pure the sound of this remix felt that I asked Zobu to progress this into a full track. I am really glad I did’. ‘Piya’ is very close to my heart and so when the song was finalised, I ran the remix by Steve ‘Fingerz’ Carty the original producer of Piya who also enjoyed the song and here we all are, releasing it to the world!
