Ashwin Adwani dishes on releasing Parchaiyon Mein

We had a chat with Ashwin Adwani, rising young musician, who recently released his single, Parchaiyon Mein.

1) How did you get your start in music? What or who inspired you?

When I was younger, my father had a boombox that played music throughout the day. Bhajans in the morning, Classic bollywood music through the day, and ghazals at night. I basically grew up around music. When I started playing the guitar, I started looking up to Ed Sheeran and he became one of my biggest inspirations.

2) Your recent song, Parchaiyon Mein, was incredible. Tell us about the process of writing it.

Thanks a lot! Well, in today’s day and age life is as fast as it can get and people take all the little things for granted. I wrote Parchaiyon Mein as a way of appreciating and holding onto all those little things in a relationship that usually go unnoticed.

3) What does your day-to-day look like during COVID-19 with your music career?

Since the lockdown started, I’ve had a lot of time to practice my craft and learn new things, so that’s what I’ve been doing. Before the lockdown, I was busy doing gigs. Now I wake up, get some food, pick up the guitar and get going.

4) What do you enjoy doing outside of music?

I’m a HUGE movie buff, I can sit around for hours watching movies.

5) We also saw your covers on YouTube! What do you enjoy about recording them?

Making covers is a different game altogether. Some people make covers that sound exactly like the original. For me, it’s different. I try to give the cover my own flavor. That’s what I enjoy the most.

6) What do you hope your music career will look like five years from now?

Given the current situation, I really hope the live music scene resumes. Together with my team at Shark & Ink, I hope to release a lot of music and be touring different cities playing all that music.

7) What advice would you give an aspiring musician?

Do it for the love of it and not just to get likes and shares on social media. Social media tends to drive artists there and it’s best to not get into that mess.
