Ignore Or Pay Heed To; Here Is What The TV Frat Does When Criticised

In an industry where criticism is an order of the day, our TV actors tell us how they react to negative feedback.

Karan Wahi – When someone appreciates your work, there is a sense of happiness that you experience. When someone criticizes your work, there should be a sense of learning that you experience.

Karan Wahi

Sachin Parikh – There are certain schools and institutes in the industry which tell you where you are going wrong. And that’s how most of the makers and learned professionals in the industry, have grown up. So, it’s part and parcel of your career, which one shall take as a stepping stone for each individual. I handle criticism very openly. Here is what I do,

1. I do not immediately react impulsively to my criticism.

2. I first check where the criticism coming from and the reason for same.

3. If I see there is a scope for improvement out of that criticism, I, immediately start working on it.

4. I answer negative criticism with tact and politeness.

Rohit Bhardwaj – Yes, criticism is very important. If someone criticizes you, it means that they are interested in you. So in a way, it is a good thing. Our industry is what makes criticism a big thing. Even when someone criticizes me for my work, I feel like respecting that person because at least that person has acknowledged my work. Having an opinion is very important. When nobody says anything, that is more dangerous. And if anyone is giving fake criticism, ignorance is the option and that is what I do.

Sourabh Raaj Jain – It all depends on from where the criticism is coming from. Is it from someone, who knows nothing about my profession but yet has a pretentious personality or is it from somebody who genuinely understands my profession and is giving a positive criticism from which I can grow. I completely ignore if it’s the former and completely try to correct myself, if it’s later.

Saurabh Pandey – Criticism can be healthy or it can turn out to be bad too. It all depends on who we choose to hear or ignore. Just like all fingers are not equal, similarly, all suggestions and criticism are not worth listing to. I have few of my chosen ones, who I allow to criticize me, as I know their criticism will be worth it, healthy and will only be for my good. If any random person comes to me with his view, then I choose if I should pay heed or ignore and just move on. Before they speak, I see if they have any hidden agenda in it. If not and if their criticism is selfless then I welcome them with an open heart as it will only be for my good.

Priyamvada Kant – We are in an industry where we are constantly judged for our looks, personality, where we go, who we meet, who our friends are. We are up for public scrutiny at all points of time. So it’s very important to have an idea of your real self. Who you actually are, and how people perceive you, shouldn’t matter after a point. If we are clear of our self-imagine and confident of who we are, there is nothing anyone can say that could harm you. People are going to criticise. It’s up to you how you react to it. You should definitely make use of constructive criticism to make yourself better. You should also turn deaf to all kinds of negativity people throw at you to bring you down. Just be confident because you know yourself best!

Ankit Bathla – I think criticism hits all of us. I guess we feel bad, sometimes we get upset too. I try my best to take it in my stride and try and make sure the criticism changes into a compliment soon and I think that’s the best way to react.

Romit Raj – it is very simple – take criticism as you take compliments, ‘Ek kaan se suno aur dusre kaan se nikal do.” Just focus on your work and sharpen your skills.

Aniruddh Dave – I am in a habit of listening to and enjoying appreciation and adulation. Sometimes, you should embrace criticism also. You find your shortcomings, where you lack. Even King Ram was criticised. I am pretty sure about my craft and style of enactment. But I feel there are areas where I can work. The first step is to admit that no one is a complete package. Secondly, it’s important to be proud of yourself and your work.

Vivian Dsena – Criticism is someone’s perception and it is up to you if you want to accept or not. In this world of competition and continuous comparison, you can’t live just criticising yourself the whole time. And no matter how good you are, somebody or the other definitely will criticise you. I take criticism in my stride and eventually nobody knows you better than you. I never retaliate because I know myself better than anyone else. Patience is the key to success.

Sneha Wagh – Criticism is a part of an actor’s life. While some appreciate, some are critical to their point of view. In our industry, it should be taken very sportingly. No movie or a television show is purposely made bad or good. It’s just made with hard work. While some of it works, unfortunately, some don’t. It’s just a point of view and everyone has a right to express their views.

Shashank Vyas – I smile and get back to work, that is the best way to combat criticism. I take it in my stride.

Rohit Purohit – Criticism is part and parcel of all professions. It should be taken sportingly. This is what I follow. If someone is criticising your work, means they care enough to see what’s wrong. And positive criticism will only help you.

Laksh – It is important to notice where the criticism is coming from. If it’s from someone who cares, then you must consider it. But sometimes there are people who just criticise, for the sake of it, that is unfair and must be ignored.

Rajniesh Duggal – Healthy criticism is helpful and it adds fuel to my fire… I’m open to criticism and appreciation but never let it effect my cool… I like to convert negative to positive and use it for my growth. It all depends on where the criticism is coming from .. if its someone who cares then yes I make sure that I work on it and improve.

Tinaa Dattaa – Criticism is a part of life. How you take it is up to you. Life isn’t easy for any of us. Everyone has to focus on the positives. Right criticism should be taken in your stride. I don’t retaliate when someone criticises and it also depends on who is the person criticizing and what is the intention.
