The cast of Dipti Kalwani’s (Sunny Side Up) and Teenna Swwayam, Sushant Kumar’s (Hum Tum Telefilms) Badho Bahu share their best monsoon memories and how they adore the season.
Rytasha Rathore: There are many childhood memories associated with monsoon. I remember every time when it rained, I used to rush out on the terrace with my building friends. We used to play football in the rain. My favourite monsoon song is ‘Just Chill’ because it sends a great message, everybody needs to chill out and have some fun!
Shagun Pandey: I am from Punjab and I have spent my entire childhood there. As soon as it would start raining, the electricity board used to cut the power. So I used to sit outside my house with my brother on a bench and just gaze out. That is my fondest memory of the rain.
Arhaan Khan: I love the smell of soil after it rains. I remember when I was a child, I used to love getting drenched in the first showers with my buddies. Now it seems like a kiddy rain dance to me. Also, I miss going home to some piping hot Maggi, it was the cherry on the cake.
Antara Banerjee: The monsoon is perhaps the most evocative of all the seasons as it draws out different senses, be it memories of Bollywood’s most romantic scenes, earthen smell and nature’s beauty and typical Indian cuisines. I remember the joy we would feel when we would get to know that there is no school because of the excessive rain We would sing and dance in the rain. My favourite monsoon song would be ‘Sawaar Loon’ from Lootera.
Karamveer Choudhary: There are many childhood memories like making paper boats and playing with friends. We used to have competitions. We used to play kho-kho, climb trees and do what not, in the rain. We used to get wet, fall sick but still the play never stopped. There was a lake in our village which we used to swim in whenever it rained. We learnt swimming there while holding the cow’s or bull’s tail, the animals used to come there for a bath. Eating pakodas cooked in pure ghee was the best thing that I miss now.
Mridul Kumar: There are many childhood memories like playing in the rains for hours and getting sick and then getting a scolding from my mother. We used to have paper boat competitions!
Ashima Ahmed: I really love rains! In my childhood days, I used to play a lot in the rains with friends and siblings. We used to make paper boats and would block the water on the terrace and swim in it, it was fun. Our mom used to scold us a lot, but once we cleaned ourselves and got dressed, we used to get hot chai and pakodas! It was the most amazing feeling. Right since my teenage days, my favourite song has been ‘Piya Basanti Re Kaahe Sataye Ajaa’ I don’t know why, but the lyrics of this song made me feel the drops of rain a little more and I really enjoyed listening to this song.
Paras Chhabra: Who doesn’t like the monsoons? I have a deep connection with rains because it always rains on my birthday, which is on 11 July. And when it rains you can see the greenery all over and the mesmerising smell of mud. I love to be with my family or loved ones at this time and eat pakodas with masala tea. I still remember when I was a teenager, my family and I would to go to the terrace and have fun for hours and hours and never get tired. After that we used to take a shower, have good food.
Sangeeta Panwar: I love the monsoon song “Ab Ke Sajan Saawan Me” from the movie Chupke Chupke. I remember my cousins and I used to play in the rains in our fields, back in my village. This one time my mother had kept milk on the chulha for boiling and there was a very heavy down pour of rain water and some of it fell in the milk, my siblings and cousins gave me that milk and I drank it thinking it was tea. All of us still laugh at that incident!
Jaya Ojha: Monsoons are one of the most romantic seasons for me and my husband Udbhav. All we want to do is put our favorite songs on the music player, have some snacks and tea and watch the rain. The best memory I have of the monsoon is sitting home, a couple of years ago, sipping a fine cup of tea with the luxury of some home made pakodas with my family. There was a black out in the city and I remember watching the streets of Andheri (Mumbai) fill up with water from the balcony of my apartment.
