Sagar Parekh is known on TV for giving honest and complex performances. He has played many layered roles, from winning hearts as Samar in Anupamaa to making a strong impression as Akash in Jagriti: Ek Nayi Subah. But it was his time on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11 that really showed people a different side of him. Joining the world of competitive dance reality shows wasn’t just a professional decision; it changed his life.
Speaking about how reality television changed him, Sagar says,
“Reality television completely transformed me as a performer. My journey on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, where we almost reached the finale, I think it was truly life-changing.”
He admits that before the show, he had never danced on a professional stage.
“I had never stepped onto a professional dancing stage before, and suddenly, I was performing in a format with zero cuts and no retakes. It forced me to trust myself in the moment,” he shares.
Sagar grew in ways he didn’t expect when he stepped outside of his comfort zone.
“Stepping out of my comfort zone made me more fearless, more disciplined, and more aware of my own potential, which was very much needed and important,” he says.
He learned things about himself that he didn’t know he had.
However, the journey was not without challenges. There is a lot of judgment and stress in reality shows.
“The toughest part was handling the pressure of constant judgment while delivering live performances without the safety net of so-called edits,” Sagar reveals.
He adds,
“When you know there’s no second take, the mental game becomes as important as the performance itself.”
There were times when he doubted himself when he was up against tough opponents, but he chose to keep going.
“Almost making it to the finale was rewarding, but the real victory was learning not to fear and not define my limits,” he reflects.
After tasting that adrenaline and growth, Sagar is open to exploring more reality-based formats.
“After experiencing a platform like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, I’m definitely open to more reality-based formats because that show taught me one core lesson – never say no to something because you think you cannot do it.”
He continues,
“I had never danced professionally before, yet I embraced the challenge and discovered a new side of myself.”
For him, the excitement lies in uncertainty.
“I get excited by formats that push me mentally and physically because I think that’s where growth begins – the moment you say yes to the unknown,”
Sagar Parekh signs off, making it clear that for him, evolution as an artist begins where comfort ends.
