Actor Karanvir Sharma, who has steadily carved a strong place for himself across films, television, and OTT platforms, continues to win praise for his powerful role choices and consistently solid performances. Having worked in all major formats, he has witnessed the entertainment industry’s evolution closely – especially the rapid rise of OTT.

Sharing his honest thoughts on how digital platforms have changed storytelling, audience reach, and creative freedom, Karanvir says the transformation has been huge.

“I think the storytelling medium has changed and evolved over a period of time. We are trying to push boundaries where we have more engagement,” he explains.

According to him, OTT demands consistent impact and authenticity.

“When you talk about OTT, then you’re talking about continuous success of content, realistic performances at the same time. We’re looking at sharper edits; the attention span has definitely drifted with the new digital vertical age.”

For Karanvir, who has always focused on meaningful scripts, the formula remains simple: strong content rules.

“Audience reach depends on the content, to be honest, and content is always going to be key in that spectrum,” he adds, highlighting how high-quality storytelling is what connects with viewers across regions.

However, despite the freedom OTT is known for, Karanvir feels creativity is more restricted than before.

“You don’t really have the creative freedom that you used to have in the 70s, you have to be socially viable, responsible content is important, but the absolute freedom of creativity is shadowed by norms that are arm-twisted into cultural or religious aspects.”

Karanvir hopes the industry moves toward more openness, or that if it’s for entertainment, there should just be a slate saying this is fiction giving more freedom for storytellers.

With his diverse body of work, Karanvir Sharma continues to adapt while championing better space for creativity in the OTT era.
