This International Men’s Day, we sit down with Ram Yashvardhan, who portrays Lord Shiva in Shiv Shakti – Tap Tyaag Tandav. Drawing inspiration from the timeless strength and wisdom of Shiva, Ram Yashvardhan reflects on the importance of acknowledging contributions of men to society and shares practical tips for maintaining both physical and mental well-being.

This year, the International Men’s Day theme is about celebrating men and boys. What does celebrating men, boys, and their contribution to society mean to you?

Just as we often say that International Women’s Day should be celebrated every day, I believe the same applies to men. Every day, countless men step out of their homes to earn for their families; from industrialists to auto drivers, from big jobs to small ones. Each of them works hard to keep their households running and to provide financial security. They deserve recognition for that. Any man who remains connected to and committed to his family truly deserves appreciation.

Lord Shiva is someone who embodies immense power but also deep emotions. How do you think men today can balance strength with vulnerability, and has playing him given you any new insights about this?

As we all know, Bholenath is the supreme power. The more I’ve had the opportunity to portray him, the more I’ve realized that he is one complete man. He is a family man, a God, a loving husband, a caring father, and a true friend. He represents perfect balance: compassionate yet fierce as Rudra, capable of performing the powerful Tandav. His strength is beyond comparison. One can follow his path through meditation and good deeds, because when your actions are pure, God is pleased and in turn, you find happiness within yourself. Those who walk the path of righteousness are bound to lead a good life.

Male energy in our history and scriptures often represents creation, protection, and transformation. How do you wish to inspire your male audience through your portrayal of Mahadev?

I strive to portray Lord Shiva to the best of my ability, serving as a bridge for audiences to connect with him. I remain committed to bringing him to life as authentically as possible and presenting Lord Shiva in the most impactful way. When it comes to the teachings embedded in our dialogues, I carefully adapt them, so they are delivered clearly and effectively, ensuring the message reaches our viewers. Above all, everyone should find inspiration in Mahadev.

Lord Shiva embodies both physical strength and mental calm. On social media we watch you work hard to maintain your own fitness too. What advice would you give to men today to stay healthy and well-balanced?

Eat well because your diet is the foundation of good health. Even if you don’t exercise much, eating nutritious food can help you stay fit. Take care of what you put on your plate. While exercising is important, if it’s not part of your routine, then focus on your diet, because ultimately, what you eat matters the most.
