Kyunki & Kahaani’s Mahasangam Deserves Immense Praise for a Timeless Crossover Packed with Emotion and Substance

The last few days saw television history be made as two iconic characters and families of Indian television reunited as both shows celebrate 25 years this year. Sakshi Tanwar and Kiran Karmarkar returned as Parvati and Om from Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and joined the Virani family of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, leading to arguably the best episodes of television in a long time.
While nostalgia helped create waves and winning hearts, this Mahasangam deserves praise for much more. Firstly, the first season of Kyunki ended with a cliffhanger with Parvati revealing to Tulsi that she was raising Karan and Tanya’s long lost son Parth, who is also the inheritor to Amba’s property. This was linked perfectly to the present in season 2, where Parth is well and living with Karan and Nandini in the US. And Parth gave the property to Parvati for protection leading the way for Parvati and Om meeting the Virani family again years later (now).
To have clarity surrounding a cliffhanger more than a decade later shows the care taken in the story and the legacy of the show too.
Furthermore, the dialogue and writing of the episodes were spectacular. Right from the entry of Parvati and Om to their exit, every moment was written so well and stirred strong emotions in viewers, even if they were not familiar with the first season. The episode which aired on Diwali had Parvati read out a letter which Amba left for Tulsi. It revealed that Tulsi is the sole inheritor of the property and she also stated why Tulsi is her only choice. A flashback was smartly made and featured the late Sudha Shivpuri who explained why she handed everything over to Parth until it reached Tulsi. This scene left viewers emotional with many realizing how much elders matter in families, and how property should not come in way of family; a topic becoming increasingly relevant to our modern times.
Since the beginning of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, viewers have witnessed the importance of Indian culture and family values, and this Mahasangam took it all to another level. It was a reminder of why we fell in love Indian television… for the very portrayal of family and culture! There is something special about how the OGs do it, and it’s clear they still shine even in the modern era. Not forgetting that the new writers and creatives are doing a stellar job with these themes too!
While fans will be left heartbroken when Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 ends, we wonder if Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii could return for a finite season too! Wouldn’t that be amazing? Until then, we’re savouring every moment with our Virani Parivaar!
