Manpasand Ki Shaadi Review: A Modern Lens on Love and Choices Backed by Strong Performances

Spread the love

It’s the season of romance, and it’s being felt worldwide. From film to web to our television screens, romance seems to be the genre which people are finding their way back to. However, it’s 2025, and love at first sight, or love after arranged marriage, may not necessarily be the case anymore. Colors and Rajshri Productions offer a fresh perspective on love and romance with their latest offering, Manpasand Ki Shaadi! Starring debutants Akshun Mahajan and Esha Suryawanshi, it’s time for our review of the show!

Set across Indore and Vittal village, Manpasand Ki Shaadi begins by telling the story of Aarohi, who is almost done with her studies and dreams of working and creating a better life for her family. From the decision to study to her marriage, everything in the village must be passed by the council, especially when it concerns women. Aarohi’s marriage has been fixed with Sagar, as he is a relative of her aunt. Sagar is not a good man and is going to disrespect and objectify her after marriage. Aarohi eventually discloses his truth to her father, who then gives her one month to find the groom of her choice.
Aarohi studies in Indore, and there she crosses paths with Abhishek. He is a good person, and while he may appear to be one of the coolest guys around, his every life decision is dictated by his father. His lavish home is unhappy, and despite the women in the home being highly educated, they are all oppressed by Abhishek’s father’s mindset and control. Abhishek’s marriage is also fixed with a girl of his father’s choice, and only his mother knows that he wants to marry the bride of his choice.
Aarohi and Abhishek are involved in a series of misunderstandings, and how they come out of it and realise they are the right match for each other, is what will form the essence of the story. This leads to the concept of Manpasand Ki Shaadi, where compatibility is evaluated before rushing into a major relationship like marriage.
In terms of the story, it is commendable that a modern thought has been brought by the master himself, Sooraj Barjatya. It is an idea that will resonate with viewers worldwide, especially those of Indian origin. The episodes are beautifully presented, and while the pace may have appeared slow in initial episodes, the current job interview misunderstanding has improved this, and makes you eager to see the road ahead.
Debutants Esha Suryawanshi and Akshun Mahajan are exceptional. Esha beautifully translates the role of Aarohi into a girl who is relatable and conveys her innermost dreams and aspirations to the audience. Akshun has effortlessly portrayed the various shades of Abhishek so far. Despite the moments when Abhishek behaves in an entitled or arrogant manner, he still conveys the pure heart and innocence of the character, never losing its core. Suchitra Bandekar is a force to be reckoned with as Aarohi’s mother, and Milind Gawali plays Aarohi’s father well, too. Abhishek’s parents are played by Avinash Wadhawan and Gungun Uprari, and they, too, deliver strong performances. Ankiet N Narang manages to execute his dark role of Sagar quite well, too. The entire cast stands out, making us eager to see more of them as the story unfolds.
The chemistry between Esha and Akshun is superb, and when they’re together on screen, you don’t want to blink because they’re so good! One thing to be noted is that the show is not one-dimensional. As mentioned above, it’s not the normal love at first sight or love beginning after an arranged marriage. It’s a more practical approach that takes into account the bonds of family. It is therefore one of those shows which have to be watched with an open mind and be a little patient with.
We are eager to see how the familial bonds are explored and how they’re balanced with the love story. This was done impressively in Rajshri Productions’ web series, Bada Naam Karenge.
With a noteworthy and promising start, Manpasand Ki Shaadi earns a 7/10!
Manpasand Ki Shaadi airs Monday to Friday on Colors across global regions like India, South Africa, the Middle East, the US and the UK.
