Abhay Kant Mishra is a versatile actor, currently captivating audiences as the antagonist, Chitti, in Udne Ki Aasha. With a career spanning across television, web series, and film, he has showcased his immense talent in various roles. He is well-known for his compelling performance as Bala in Radha Krishn, the web series Abhay 2 and the film State of Siege. Abhay exclusively chats to us about playing Chitti and the different dynamics between Chitti and the other characters of Udne Ki Aasha.

Chitti is such a complex and antagonistic character. What drew you to this role, and how did you prepare to play a loan-shark like him?

I don’t consider Chitti to be too complex because like other human beings, he has different shades in him. He is motivated for his cause. He is cunning, he is manipulative, and he can go to any extent to get what he wants. I have always loved to play such characters who have different layers, different shades. For example when he sees Sachin, he is willing to fight; he is willing to do anything, but with Sailee he is patient, and very polite. Though he taunts Sailee he is polite and he asks her if she is okay etc. It is fun to play Chitti and to prepare for it, I had to read the script as many times as possible. So reading the script you get to know the backstory, the motivation of the character so basically script reading is very essential for me.

Chitti has been a constant source of trouble for Sachin and Sailee. How do you approach bringing that tension to life on screen, especially in your scenes with them?

Sachin and Sailee are villains for Chitti. They always make him feel bad, they always taunt him, they always try to humiliate him so Chitti will go to any extent to get his revenge. So with Sachin, Chitti is very upfront, he is willing to take a risk, but with Sailee he is pretentious. He taunts her but still there is a sense of politeness or pretending to be polite, you could say. So it is a lot of fun!

In the show, Chitti is a bad influence on Sailee’s brother Dillip. What do you think motivates Chitti to pull Dillip into his world, and how do you portray that dynamic?

Chitti knows Dillip and he knows that he is the key to bring tension in Sachin and Sailee’s life. Chitti also knows that Dillip is ambitious; he wants to earn quick money and have a good quality life unlike his family. He wants to get rich in no time. So basically Chitti takes advantage of Dillip’s greed. Chitti knows in future, Dillip can be a shield between him and Sachin and Sailee. So this is the basic dynamic between Chitti and Dillip.

The current track introduces a fake video where Sachin is shown as a drunk cab driver. What was your reaction when you first learned about this twist, and how did it shape your performance as Chitti?

Chitti is highly motivated; he can go to any extent to take his revenge. So when he gets a chance like seeing Sachin the bar, he would go for it.  Making the video was not a big task for him because he knows such a video can give him leverage and he can control Sachin and Sailee’s life, plus Chitti is full of himself, and can’t tolerate being humiliated by Sachin and Sailee.

How do you balance making Chitti a menacing villain while still keeping him believable and human? Are there any specific traits or emotions you focus on to achieve this?

Chitti is a villain but like any other human being he has emotions and traits and you can see that in how different he interacts with Sachin and Sailee, and he knows Sailee is Dillip’s sister. And with Dillip, its different altogether, where he is trying to manipulate Dillip but he makes sure to treat Dillip like a younger brother. I can say that Chitti is a man of different shades.

Chitti and his schemes have been keeping viewers at the edge of their seats. Have you received any memorable feedback from viewers about your portrayal, and how does that affect the way you play him?

I want to thank the viewers of Udne Ki Aasha. I got many messages from fans. They were appreciating my performance. Some of their reactions were genuine, they were very upset about why Chitti is doing such things and bringing trouble for Sachin and Sailee, and this is what motivates me. I’m very happy that I can justify this character.

The conflict between Chitti and Sachin seems personal. How do you see their rivalry evolving in the future, especially after this fake video storyline?

Of course the conflict between Chitti and Sachin is very personal because both of them are not willing to miss any chance to humiliate each other, and I think it will not stop. Chitti is not going to stop until he completes his act of vengeance, till he destroys Sachin’s life. And I’m sure viewers are going to see many exciting episodes to come.

Working on a dramatic track like this must be intense. What’s been your favourite scene so far?

I think my interactions with Sachin are very intense. Each and every scene that I’ve performed with Sachin is very intense but the scene which I liked the most is the introduction scene in which Sachin comes to my office asking me not to hurt his friends and family and Chitti being Chitti, denies it, and gives him time to either return his money or he is going to take his friend’s car away, so that was the scene which I liked the most.

What has the experience been like working with Kanwar Dhillon and Neha Harsora?

My experience so far is very good. Kanwar and Neha both are lovely people. They are great human beings and it is always fun to perform with them.
