Bada Naam Karenge review: Sweet, Powerful and won’t stop Tugging your Heartstrings
Spread the love
Rajshri Productions has given us iconic and heartfelt films and television shows over the years, and in 2025, they gave us a story with their signature charm for the first time on OTT. ‘Bada Naam Karenge‘ sets out to tell a modern-day love story while still being connected to the roots of family values and culture. Does it succeed according to us? Let’s find out!
The show tells the story of two individuals, Rishabh Rathi and Surbhi Gupta, who cross paths in Mumbai while pursuing their studies there. It’s far from love at first sight as the two dislike each other, but the coronavirus lockdown changed their lives forever. As Surbhi gets trapped in Rishabh’s apartment and cannot step out due to the lockdown, the two form an unexpected bond of understanding and eventually love.
The present-day scenarios make you realise that it’s not just a story of two individuals but of two families. Rishabh hails from the affluent Rathi family, who owns a successful sweets brand. Their family dynamics are stuck in the past when men, particularly the oldest man of the house, make the decisions for everyone. On the other hand, Surbhi comes from a simple, working-class family who has moved on with the times for the most part.
Without giving away the storyline, ‘Bada Naam Karenge‘ showcases what happens when the two families come together for their children’s marriage and how mistakes made out of ego in the past have an everlasting impact on a family. It boils down to Rishabh and Surbhi taking a strong stand for their better future and the future of the entire family.
In terms of performances, Ritik Ghanshani and Ayesha Kaduskar are spectacular in their roles of Rishabh and Surbhi, and we deserve to see more of them irrespective of the medium. Every nuance and quirk they added made their characters so real and relatable. Their chemistry is natural and backed by a strong understanding of their characters.
Not just them, but the entire cast did full justice to their roles. Kanwaljit Singh and Alka Amin perfectly execute their grey-shaded roles; Rajesh Jais and Chaitrali Gupte were delightful in their roles as the submissive couple in the house. Jameel Khan and Deepika Amin were fantastic too, as the more light-hearted couple on the show. Another fine performer was Gyanendra Tripathi, who played Shekhar, the serious and protective elder brother of Surbhi. Rajesh Tailang is an actor who didn’t disappoint yet again and made you hate his negative character of Rajesh but also realise he was a necessary spanner in the works. Anjana Sukhani was graceful and effective in her crucial role of Neeta.
Anurag Saikia‘s music on the show is another heroic force, and the show’s soundtrack is on repeat on our playlist!
The entire team deserve applause for finally giving OTT a show that beautifully threads modernity with tradition. It’s a story that all age groups will relate to and enjoy. It sheds light on an important issue affecting most families – a gap in communication between different generations. As times change and get more complex, ‘Bada Naam Karenge‘ advocates for making your home and family environment a safe and comfortable space for all members, irrespective of age, to share their thoughts and feelings.
We need more shows like this one, and we sincerely hope we get a season 2 soon because this is a story we are not getting over anytime soon.
‘Bada Naam Karenge’ is currently streaming on Sony LIV worldwide.
