Zee Studios and Zee TV recently launched their latest show, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab. The show sees Rajashree Thakur return to the channel after ‘Saat Phere‘ and Yogendra Vikram Singh debut in a lead role. Here is our review!

The show is set in Kanpur and tells the story of the Trivedi family who live in a one-bedroom apartment. The family consists of Avani (Rajashree Thakur), Shikhar (Yogendra Vikram Singh), Shikhar’s parents, their two daughters, and Shikhar’s sister Shagun and her son. Avani and Shikhar share a dream to one day own a home where the family can live a comfortable and good life. Shikhar is the everyday common man who goes to work and works honestly to earn a living and provide for his family, but he always seems to fall short in terms of earning respect and achieving his goals. Avani possesses immense talent, enough to become a beautician, but Shikhar’s conditioning does not allow him to let her go out and work. Nevertheless, Shikhar loves Avani a lot, and he is not a cynical or evil man as many would have expected.
The story gets deeper with Shikhar’s sister Shagun, who is married to Avani’s brother Vidyut. Shagun and Vidyut had a nasty argument and she left her house and returned to the Trivedi’s. It is evident that Vidyut is a good man, and it is Shagun who tried to create problems and distance in her in-law’s home. Shagun seems materialistic and jealous of Shikhar’s family. Adding a more youthful touch to the story is Avani and Shikhar’s daughter Anika, an 18-year-old, who is very much a Gen-Z kid like the others, but her father’s strictness does not allow her to live as freely as her friends. There also seems to be a blooming romance between Anika and Rudra, who studies at her college.
As you can see already, the story is relatable and relevant to our current times and the characters’ lives resonate strongly with the average viewer. It is also refreshing to see a story set in Uttar Pradesh as viewers worldwide can get a glimpse of what lives and lifestyles families in the region lead. The show is also realistically shot in a 1 BHK apartment elevating the authenticity factor even more.
Performance-wise, we have come to only expect the best from Rajashree Thakur and that is exactly what she delivers! The actress is set to give a memorable performance as Avani and we hope this becomes a landmark character in her filmography. Yogendra Vikram Singh is exceptional as Shikhar. He can realistically emote the character and the chemistry between him and Rajashree is impeccable and we hope to see more scenes showcasing different shades of their chemistry. Bhumika Gurung adds intrigue to her character of Shagun and one would find it hard to believe that it’s her first time playing a negative role. The entire cast including Isha Dheerwani, Samta Sagar, Jairoop Jeevan and Sandeep Sharma is stellar and we are excited for the journey ahead where we get to see more of them.
All in all, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab is a refreshing and realistic portrayal of common individuals. Television needs more shows like this and we welcome this show with open arms. To add to it, there’s something magical about the show too, it’s as if it has some magic which we used to feel when watching shows from the early 2000s. It seems like Zee TV has finally gotten it right with this show after a long time.
Bas Itna Sa Khwaab airs Monday to Sunday on Zee TV at 7 p.m. in India and South Africa, and 10 p.m. in the UK. The show also streams globally on Zee5 Global.
