Deewaniyat review: A stylish and fascinating saga of love and family feud

Spread the love

This month, Star Plus and Cockrow and Shaika Entertainment launched their new offering, Deewaniyat. The show, led by Vijayendra Kumeria, Kritika Singh Yadav, and Navneet Malik, has been receiving a lot of attention, and it’s time to find out if it deserves your watch!

Deewaniyat is set in Haryana and showcases two powerful families, the Chaudharys and the Maliks. The two families once shared a strong bond but due to reasons yet to be revealed, that bond was broken, and now the two families do not see eye to eye. Making things complicated is the love story which blossomed between Mannat, the daughter of the Maliks, and Jeet, the son of the Chaudharys giving rise to a Romeo & Juliet type of situation. Things get deeper when we also meet Dev, Jeet’s younger brother, who is more carefree and loves his elder brother a lot. Dev also harbours hatred towards the Maliks and makes viewers question if he had any part in the separation of the families.
Both households have members with their own conspiracies. The Malik household has Rudra and his mother, Rani. Rudra’s father was a close friend of Mannat’s father and wants to take control of the Malik’s wealth, claiming his father deserved it all. In the Chaudhary household, Jeet and Dev’s mother, Sakshi, and the stepdaughter of the family, Babita, both seem like potential troublemakers.
How Jeet and Mannat’s love story ends up, the clash between two families and between members within each household seems to be what will form the rest of the story. The various characters each have the potential to go to great lengths for the ones they love, possibly showing the ‘deewaniyat’ the title refers to. Performance-wise, the cast is nothing short of stellar! Vijayendra Kumeria once again delivers a fantastic performance and gets the Haryanvi dialect quite well. He also effortlessly steps into the younger brother role whereas he was the older one in Teri Meri Doriyaann. We also cannot wait to see how his chemistry with Kritika turns out if they end up together. Kritika Singh Yadav is graceful as Mannat and shows great potential to be a strong performer as the story builds. Navneet Malik pours his heart into Jeet, and his chemistry with Kritika is quite something!
It’s once again a pleasure to see Gouri Tonnk perform, and we can’t wait to see her full-on Sakshi avatar. Manik Bedi and Raaj Sunger make for the perfect rivals to watch too. Aayush Anand fits into the shoes of Rudra quite well as he makes Rudra the baddie we hate but find interesting too. The entire cast complements the show’s story and their characters well, and it’s only a matter of time before we see more of the other characters too.
A bonus point for the show is that the makers have again succeeded in presenting a cultural backdrop well. Just as they did right from Choti Sarrdaarni, viewers get to experience and learn more about a particular region of India and its culture.
Overall, Deewaniyat is a clear ‘Must Watch‘ for its gripping story, power-packed performances, and stylish presentation, which would give even Western soapies competition.
Deewaniyat airs every day at 6 pm on Star Plus in India and South Africa, and 6 pm on Utsav Plus in the UK. The show streams on Hulu in the US.
