Starring Fahmaan Khan, Debattama Saha and Ketaki Kulkarni as Aryaman, Krishna and Mohini, respectively, the show began by taking viewers on a journey from Dwarka to Mumbai. Krishna and Aryaman married under unexpected circumstances, but Aryaman still vowed to protect Krishna and took responsibility for her brother Mohan. Mohan battled with his identity as he identified as a female, but no one understood him. In Mumbai, Mohan was exposed to more people like him and realised he deserved a place in society like everyone else. Krishna, initially reluctant, eventually understood her brother and supported Mohan’s decision to undergo a physical transformation. This brought complications for Aryaman and his family. Aryaman, on the other hand, had a personal hatred for transgender people linked to his father leaving home.
A surprising twist came when everyone thought Mohan was dead but later returned as Mohini with Sidharth. Due to Sidharth’s instigation, Mohini hates Krishna and wants revenge on Krishna and Aryaman. How Aryaman and Krishna faced this formed the tail end of the show.
The show had an incredible cast, with Fahmaan and Debattama giving memorable performances along with the rest of the cast, who we wish got explored more if the show ran further. However, fresh and modern-day storytelling seems to fall prey to the pressure of numbers, and this is likely the reason we got an unexpected twist with Mohini becoming the negative ‘third angle’ of #ArShna’s story, and then the show sadly coming to a close. A point to note is that Krishna Mohini fared better than its competitors at the 7 p.m. time slot. So could the problem have been the timeslot and not the core concept?
Whatever the case, one thing the television industry needs to rethink is its content and come up with ways to introduce new thoughts and storylines to its audience. Of course, it won’t happen overnight, but if a firm stand to evolve is taken, the audience will become part of that evolution. As they always say, TRP is the money maker, and in a cutthroat world, sometimes you can’t blame channels for caring more about the ratings. Maybe the resolve now has to be to have a positive impact on society. Television is the most powerful medium to influence people, and maybe, just maybe, they will have to realise that the world’s problems include more than love triangles and women-centric issues. There are several HUMAN issues facing the average individual that need to be looked at.
As Krishna Mohini comes to a close, we salute the team for being brave and wish them all the best for the future. Thank You for the memories you have given viewers, and we cannot wait to see you all give us great content in future!
