Ekta R Kapoor and Zee TV launched ‘Kundali Bhagya‘ on 12 July 2017. Here we are seven years later, and the show keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The show is a spin-off of ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ and began with Shraddha Arya, Dheeraj Dhoopar and Manit Joura leading the cast.
Dr Preeta Arora (Shraddha Arya), the sister of Pragya of Kumkum Bhagya, arrived in Mumbai with her sister Srishti (Anjum Fakih). They initially refused to accept Sarla (Supriya Shukla) as their mother due to past grievances. Things took a turn when Preeta became the physiotherapist to cricketer The Karan Luthra‘s (Dheera Dhoopar) grandmother. Karan and Preeta’s love story slowly blossomed, and while the two claimed to hate each other, it was evident they fell more in love each time. In the initial phases, Karan’s brother, Rishabh, also developed feelings for Preeta but tried to end those feelings as his marriage to Sherlyn (Ruhi Chaturvedi) was fixed.
And this was how the story got deeper. Sherlyn had hidden motives, and so did her lover Prithvi (Sanjay Gagnani), who got engaged to Preeta. Eventually, Karan married Preeta and saved her from marrying Prithvi.
The show ran on these lines for the most part, keeping viewers engaged with the high-voltage drama and impeccable chemistry between Dheeraj and Shraddha. Even the villains, Prithvi and Sherlyn, were fun to watch! The cast, including Anisha Hinduja, Naveen Saini, Neelam Mehra, Twinkle Vashisht, Mrinal Navell, and Usha Bachani, all stand out and add their spark to the show.
In 2022, Dheeraj exited the show with Shakti Arora, stepping into the shoes of Karan. In 2023, the show took its biggest leap of twenty years and saw Shakti Anand taking on the role of Karan. Karan and Preeta’s twin sons, Rajveer and Shaurya, are played by Paras Kalnawat and Baseer Ali. Dr Palki, Rajveer’s love interest, was also introduced and was played by Sana Sayyad until May this year, and Adrija Roy stepped into the role. Mrinal Navell plays Karan and Preeta’s daughter Kavya.
Kundali Bhagya is a show which has a permanent place in viewers’ hearts. The show was at the number 1 spot for a long time on the ratings charts and is still one of the leading shows in India and among Indian shows worldwide.
