Krishna Mohini premiered on Colors TV on 29 April ’24 and is produced by Boyhood Productions. Featuring a stellar cast including Fahmaan Khan, Debattama Saha and Ketaki Kulkarni, the show has gained a lot of attention already, and it’s time for our review!
The story opens up in Dwarka, and we meet Krishna (Debattama Saha) and her brother Mohan (Ketaki Kulkarni). Krishna lives with Mohan and her alcoholic father and works as many jobs as she can to make ends meet and support her brother’s dreams. Krishna is also the head of her home as her father sees his children as a burden rather than his responsibility after their mother’s death. We also meet Aryaman (Fahmaan Khan), who arrives in Dwarka with his family for his wedding. We learn about his childhood, where his father left the house due to debts. His father’s friend Kundan (Naveen Saini) takes responsibility for Aryaman and his mother. The two formed a business over the years, and Aryaman is set to wed Kundan’s daughter, Ananya.
The concept unravels further when we see that Mohan is viewed as ‘different,’ and we discover that Mohan identifies as and feels more like a female. Due to not being understood, a naive Mohan feels he is a burden to his sister and wishes to take drastic steps like running away or even dying.
The show’s foundation has been laid, and we must say it is impressive. It is commendable that they are brave enough to show a story depicting the lives of members of society who often go unnoticed. It also realistically shows society’s hesitance to accept individuals who are ‘different’ and do not conform to norms. Another point of praise is that they did not waste time showing us who the antagonists are. Upon our first meeting with Ananya (Anoushka Chauhan), we immediately dislike her for her arrogance and superiority complex. The same goes for her brother Sidharth (Mohit Sachdev) and mother Srijila (Ashita Dhawan), who are jealous of Kundan’s love for Aryaman and hope to snatch the company and wealth from him. The duo of Sidharth and Srijila is quite interesting to watch, and they seem like villains we may enjoy watching. Aryaman’s mother is another delightful character to watch, and there is a scene between her and Aryaman on a bridge, where the love between them is beautiful to watch. She is a woman of grace and kindness, and we cannot wait for more scenes of her with Aryaman and Krishna.
Fahmaan Khan delivers yet another power-packed performance, as the actor can sink deep into his character of Aryaman. The fine actor certainly deserves a character like Aryaman, which breaks away from the norms for many male characters. When it comes to Debattama Saha, we can say with full confidence that Krishna Mohini will be a turning point for her as an actor. She appears natural as Krishna and given her character facing so much, she has already showcased a range of emotions. The chemistry between Fahmaan and Debattama was evident right from their first scene together where she saved him from drowning. We seriously cannot wait for them to fall in love with each other! Ketaki Kulkarni is commendable for the way she plays Mohan, and the actress can carry off the role naturally despite the various changes she has to adopt to play Mohan. Another special mention so far is Mohit Sachdev, for playing Sidharth in a subtle yet still devious way. We cannot wait to see more of the entire cast which looks so promising.
Krishna Mohini is a show which deserves to be watched for its freshness and unconventional story, as well as its relatable characters. The story is going at a good pace, and each episode offers something different. The only concern we have is that this show should not succumb to being another love triangle on television. We hope Ananya does not become an obsessive lover but finds other ways to channel her evilness. Seeing how Mohan’s life challenges intertwine with Aryaman and Krishna’s will surely be path-breaking. A show like Krishna Mohini will thrive if it sets out to be different, just like its concept and characters, and sooner or later, the audience will accept and even appreciate the show for these reasons.
At a time when recycled content is in full swing, Krishna Mohini offers hope to society and also to the television medium. Wishing the cast, crew and entire team the very best!
