What music did you grow up on as a child?

I grew up on Punjabi music in my household and also Bollywood. Michael Jackson was the first artist to really influence my musical tastes and I discovered Hip-Hop as I became a teenager. From Gurdas Maan and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Warren G, Busta Rhymes, and Common I absorbed it all.

When did you found your passion?
Music became a passion for me in High School when I won first place in our annual talent show. I performed Busta Rhymes Fire It Up with a friend and never looked back since then.

What attracts you towards R&B?
I love most genres of music but R&B holds a special place in my heart. I think it’s the honesty and rawness of the emotions being expressed. Slow songs are my favorite.

What was the life-changing event for you? What was the biggest challenge you faced in the music industry as an artist?

Being played on BBC Radio 1 in 2005 was life-changing, it was the first time a song I wrote “Keep it Undercover” with Sunit, reached such a massive audience. The biggest challenge has been bouncing back from failures in life and in music and still have the passion to continue.

How did you come up with the name Raxstar?

Rax was a nickname a cousin gave me and I added the Star later when I would write it in graffiti style in my school books.

Tell us about your first stage performance.
My first time performing is actually a blur, I don’t remember when or where it was. I do know that I still get nervous right before I go on stage and it’s one of my favorite parts of my job.
