Birthday Special: Revisiting Jimmy Fallon’s journey to becoming one of the most popular TV personalities

Jimmy Fallon has become the name today he once dreamt of. The man persevered, and today, he is one of the most successful people, especially on television.

Jimmy Fallon was born in 1974 in Brooklyn, New York, to Gloria (Feeley). He is of Irish, German, and Norwegian descent. He was raised in Saugerties, which is in upstate New York. He has performed stand up, impressions and characters across the country, in some of the biggest comedy clubs, such as the Improv (Los Angeles) and Caroline’s Comedy Club (New York City).

He also took acting classes with The Groundlings, an LA-based breeding ground for great comedians. Jimmy joined the cast of Saturday Night Live (1975) as a featured player in September 1998. He has already been called the best SNL player since Phil Hartman, and is popular among SNL fans.

He was commissioned to join NBC’s Saturday Night Live as a cast member in 1998, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Fallon remained on SNL for six years between 1998 and 2004, co-hosting the program’s Weekend Update segment and becoming a celebrity in the process. He left the program to join the film industry, starring in films such as ‘Taxi’ (2004) and ‘Fever Pitch’ (2005).

Following his film career, Fallon returned to television as the host of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC in 2009, where he became well known for his emphasis on music and games. He moved from that program to become the sixth permanent host of the long-running The Tonight Show in 2014.

In addition to his television work, Fallon has released two comedy albums and five books.
