400 frogs on the sets of Ridley Scott’s Exodus!

One of the biggest movies to release this year, “Exodus: Gods and Kings”, starring Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton is all slated to release in a few weeks – just in time for the winter holiday season. Director Ridley Scott, who is known to create epic movies on an epic scale, has gone all out to create this biblical period film on the life of Moses.  Scott has been a prominent director since 1979 when he released blockbuster Alien (1979).  Some of his best-known works are sci-fi classic Blade Runner (1982), Thelma & Louise (1991), best picture Oscar-winner Gladiator (2000), Black Hawk Down (2001), Hannibal (2001), Matchstick Men (2003), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), American Gangster (2007), Robin Hood (2010), and Prometheus (2012).  Keeping in line with these hits is “Exodus: Gods and Kings”.  A huge production set with elaborate costumes and monumental structures had been created, apart from shooting at live locations with heritage value for creating a true to life period film.

In one such occasion, apparently four hundred frogs were called to the set, with six frog handlers, a frog handler dog and a one meter high frog fence for a particular scene!  Starring Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, playing Nefertari, the wife of Moses (Christian Bale) in the particular shot, the lady showed extreme bravery over several takes by pretending to be asleep, knowing that a large bag of live frogs was being emptied over her head and becoming entangled in her long hair.  I’m cringing just thinking about it!  She must be really brave to handle that many frogs!

Exodus:Gods and Kings, slated to release in India on 5th December, a week prior to US release is the most anticipated movie, owing especially to Christian Bale taking up the role of Moses.
