Miss World Manushi Chhillar is about to surprise everyone with a side of her we haven’t seen before. In her next offering, the gangster drama Maalik, where she will be sharing screen-space with Rajkummar Rao for the very first time, she steps into the role of Shalini, a grounded, earthy character.
And this marks a major shift for Manushi, from the glamorous image most associate with her. But those who’ve worked with her closely knew she had it in her all along. In fact, none other than her co-star Rajkummar Rao, heaped praises on her for her transformation and dedication to playing Shalini.
At the trailer launch of Maalik, not only did Rajkummar Rao welcome Manushi on the stage with chivalry that made our hearts melt, but he also went on to applaud her for her performance in the movie. He was quoted as saying, “Not many people think of her to do these D-glam parts, but I think she’s got such an amazing Indian face. I think you should do more of such part because she’s very earthy. She’s from Haryana. So, language ka bohot hi unko pakad hai, Hindi ka, bohot aasani se aati hai unko. I think she really suited the part very well and then she worked really hard for it. And what you see on the screen now eventually on 11th July, you will be really amazed with the performance because nobody, as she said, nobody expected her to play a character like Shalini.”
It’s this raw and rooted portrayal that is fast becoming one of the most talked-about elements of Maalik, especially after the trailer dropped. All set for release on July 11, 2025, Maalik features Manushi alongside Rajkummar Rao, but it’s clear that her transformation into Shalini has carved a space all its own. Manushi will follow up her Maalik performance with an action thriller, Tehran, where she will be seen sharing screen-space with John Abraham, set for a release in late 2025.
