Writer-Director Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Porus is finally here to change the face of television and how!
The first episode of the magnum opus aired recently and has surely created waves in the world of television. From spectacular sets to spellbound acting and immaculate direction, the first episode of Porus is nothing like what has been seen before. Swastik Productions surely seems to have left no stone unturned to make this show a success. With a budget of Rs 500 crore, Porus talks about the Battle of Hydaspes, fought between Macedonia’s King Alexander and KingPorus of Paurav Rashtra.
Siddharth Kumar Tewary surely knows how to pick his actors. Starting with Aditya Redij, who plays the role of King Bamani to Rati Pandey, who plays queen Anusuya, the performances are nothing short of brilliant. Both actors seem to have put in a lot of hard work, which shows on screen. Next is Praneet Bhatt, who plays the role of Darius, a trader from Persia. This is clearly Praneet’s best performance and he casts a spell on you with his flawless acting. The scene where he orders his eagle to gouge out the eyes of an informer will send chills down your spine. He is shrewd, manipulative and thus a great performer.
Recently the two pillars of the show Laksh aka Porus and Rohit Purohit, who plays Alexander, made their majestic entries in the show. Both the actors have got a very warm response from the audience. Although Laksh and Rohit are young with their sheer hard work and dedication they have made this possible. The two have quite a fan following and people are happy to see them on screen.
It is safe to say that this part of history has not been explored in this way before. The story starts with the manipulative Persian trader Darius, who is eyeing the Jhelum stretch. The kingdom of Paurava is ruled by the proud and valiant Bamani, while the ruler of Taxila is Ambiraj, who is at constant war with Bamani. After a yearly duel, Bamani defeats Ambiraj to assert his supremacy but ends up upsetting his brother, Shivdutt who is supposedly effeminate. The show will go on to see if Darius takes advantage of Shivdutt’s anger to enter the prosperous Jhelum trade route.
Elaborate sets are an understatement for what is shown in Porus. Capturing the scenic coastline of Thailand, the cinematography and other special effects have truly made this show unique. One of the best scenes was the underwater fight between Bamani and rival Ambiraj. The eye to detail makes this show a must watch.
The background score is as amazing as the sets of the show. It’s powerful and commands respect. Everything else in the show has been carefully thought of, keeping every small detail in mind. The costumes of all the characters and their jewelry are at par with their roles. So are all the props used in the show.
All we can say is that the show is surely a game changer when it comes to period dramas on the tube. Touted to be at par with Game of Thrones and Bahubali, Porus is surely going to win a lot of hearts.
