Many film industry workers, who are part of the Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE), went on strike starting on August 16th. These members of the industry are battling issues such as workers saftey, payment, and working hours.
Producer, Rahul Kumar Tewary, spoke out against the strike, claiming he “believes that this strike is certainly not in the best interest of the industry.” Him and the rest of the opposition view the efforts as unnecessary and an attempt by FWICE to create rift for ulterior motives. Tewary points out the history of dispute and friction between FWICE and the Allied Mazdoor Union, stating that the strike seems to be an effort to “out-compete” the Allied Mazdoor’s success in gaining a 7½% increment .
Nonetheless, the strike has had little success in delaying or halting production schedules. The haven’t garnered much support from the producers/directors and even a handful of workers themselves.
