Based on the original 1979 Gol Maal movie, Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan was another mindless, laugh out loud comedy that the director is known for. Beginning with the catchy title track featuring a cameo from the legend himself, Amitabh Bachchan, the foot-tapping number is a fun song.

The story then follows Abbas, played by Abhishek Bachchan, and his sister Sania, played by Asin, as they leave a home usurped by their evil brother to build a life elsewhere. The duo move from Delhi to Ranakpur, Rajhastan and on the train ride to their new home they meet Shastri who in forms the siblings of the politics of Ranakpur.

Here is where they learn of Prithviraj Raghuvanshi (Ajay Devgan) who is the unofficial leader of the village, though pure of heart and detester of lies, he is essentially a buffoon. Prithviraj is at ends with his cousin who is attempting to take control of the village. After meeting  Abbas and Sania, trouble brews as a child falls into a pond by an abandoned Mandir which just happens to be on disputed land between Prithviraj and his cousin. Abbas rushes to save the child by breaking into the Mandir. Then to save himself from trouble due to the tension between the cousins and because he is a Muslim who dared break into a Mandir, he concocts a fake twin brother, who’s gay?? One lie leads to another and the story snowballs off from there.

There is a bit of a love story between the laughs as well. Prithviraj seems to take to Sania and Abbas later falls for Prithviraj’s little sister. Prithviraj’s sister, played by Prachi Desai, and Abbas meet after she is kidnapped from her college in Delhi and brought to Ranakpur. There is a sweet sibling relationship between Prithviraj and his little sister, and we also learn why Prithviraj wants to keep his sister close to home. Though Prachi Desai and Asin are wonderfully talented actresses, both leading ladies are tragically underused. Their roles are insignificant to the storyline, or should we say lack of storyline.

Ajay Devgan’s comic timing was perfect! The actor really shows off his talents especially with his horrible English one-liners. Abhishek Bachchan is not behind in talent, his work in Bol Bachchan may just be his best comedy yet!  Comedy king and Govinda’s nephew, Krushna was of course hilarious as ever and even Archana Puran Singh’s role as Zohra was pure comedy. Overall the actors and actresses did an amazing job.

The music of the movie was completely forgotten! Seriously, it was so bad, no one bothered to remember it. Nach le seemed to be the only track that wasn’t completely horrible. The action of the movie was a bit too fake, it added to the movie’s mindless comedy aspect. The progression of the flick was also very predictable. Towards the end, the movie started dragging when it could come straight to the point and ended nicely.

Overall, fun family movie to watch if you’re looking for some time to turn off the brain and relax, it was a laugh out loud type of flick. To be honest this is probably a 2 star film but just for the amazing comedic talent of the actors and actresses and Ajay Devgan’s hilarious English, we give this flick a 3 out of 5 stars. Be sure to watch Bol Bachchan and let us know what you think!
