The Best in Bollywood shined at 56th Idea Filmfare Awards 2011

Yesterday night (Jan 29, 2011) the only word on every Indian’s lips was Filmfare.   The yearly award show was held at the Yash Raj Films “YRF” Studio in Mumbai, India. The Filmfare awards were first held in 1954 and, over time, has become one of the most anticipated award shows in India for its ability to bring the best of Bollywood to the stage.  Filmfare as we know it now is synonymous with glitz, glamor, fashion, and fun!

Almost as exciting as watching the show is finding out who will host the star-studded event. This year, the show was hosted by none other than the current Hearthrobs of Bollywood – Ranbir Kapoor (son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh) and Imran Khan (Aamir Khan’s nephew) – who captured the hearts of the audience with their quick wit and the chemistry between the two (perhaps they’re hoping to be in Dostana 2?)

The performances this year were just as sizzling as prior years with Filmfare Favorite, Shahrukh Khan, making yet another appearance.  Check out this video below that recaps Shahrukh’s relationship with Filmfare through the years.

Probably the best moment of the night was seeing Madhuri Dixit return to the stage to set it ablaze. The dancing diva delighted the audience by unleashing her magic and spellbinding moves as she reunited and danced with Shahrukh live to hits from their movies like Devdas and Dil To Pagal Hain. In addition to these performances, the award saw amazing dances from Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor.  Kareena Kapoor had everyone dancing to her tunes with a medley of songs from 3 IdiotsGolmaal 3, andJab We MetPriyanka Chopra set pulses racing and raised the temperature a good few notches with her tribute to Madhuri Dixit where she danced to hits like Ek Do TeenCholi Ke Peeche and Dola Re. This isn’t the first Priyanka Chorpra tribute to Madhuri, however.  If you saw the WAVE awards from last year, you know Priyanka did a tribute to Madhuri Dixit, Hema Malini, and Saira Banu there.  Personally, I would have called a star like Karisma Kapoor or Aishwarya Rai to do the tribute, but Priyanka did her best.

Amongst the other performers were the sensational singer, Sonu Nigam, Bollywood’s new blue eyed girl, Sonakshi Sinha, and performances from actress Anushka Sharma and newcomer, Ranveer Singh, who performed on a medley of songs from last year’s box office hit Band Bajaa Baraat.

Celebrating 25 years in the film industry, Madhuri Dixit was presented a special honor by the gorgeous Aishwariya Rai Bachchan. Aishwarya’s father-in-law, the esteemed Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, was also recognized for his 40 years in film and was given an award by Yash Chopra and Shahrukh Khan. Filmfare presented legendary singer, Manna Dey, with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema.

The 56th Idea Filmfare Awards will be telecast on February 6, 2011 exclusively on Sony Entertainment Television.
