Watch the “염라 (Karma)” Music Video
The album’s title track, “염라 (Karma)”, delivers a powerful and introspective message about the cycle of life, fear of being forgotten, and the concept of karma. The Korean title references King Yama, the mythological ruler of the underworld who symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and death.
Pre-Release Singles Build Momentum

YOUNHA began promotions for the album with the pre-release single “계절범죄 (Seasonal Crime)”, which dropped on February 2. The track reflects on the value of life’s fleeting moments and memories, emphasizing how every experience carries its own unique worth.
A second music video followed shortly after with “Sub Character,” released on March 6. The song explores the emotional tension between admiration and jealousy—capturing the perspective of someone who feels like a supporting character in another person’s story.
A Personal Musical Statement
The four-track remake album includes:
-
“계절범죄 (Seasonal Crime)” – originally performed by Miiro
-
“Sub Character” – originally performed by wizu
-
“염라 (Karma)” – originally performed by Dareharu
-
“Skybound” – originally performed by KARDI
Through these reinterpretations, YOUNHA aims to highlight both the emotional depth of the original songs and her own musical identity.
“I’m very excited to introduce amazing songs, and I believe you’ll enjoy the album more if you compare similar yet different charms from the original songs while listening to it,” YOUNHA shared. “SUB CHARACTER is a story about us who are looking for meaning within the most ordinary days, across languages and borders.”
Continuing a Celebrated Career
SUB CHARACTER marks YOUNHA’s first release since her seventh studio album Growth Theory, which arrived in September 2024 to celebrate the artist’s 20th debut anniversary.
Earlier this year, the singer also met fans through her “빛나는 겨울 (Glistening Winter)” concert series. The overwhelming response saw all 12 shows sell out within minutes, demonstrating the unwavering support of her global fanbase, known as Y.HOLICS.
