Movies heal artists who do them as much as they heal the audience who watch it. At the trailer launch of Do Deewane Seher Mein, actress Mrunal Thakur got visibly emotional as she walked the audience through her journey of self-acceptance, revealing how her own experiences mirror those of her character, Roshni’s.

Recalling how she came on board the project, Mrunal said the decision was almost instinctive. “Sir (director Ravi Udyawar) actually gave me a call and said, ‘Mrunal, I want you to hear something’.” After listening to the narration from writer Abhiruchi Chand, she was immediately convinced. “It’s very rare that you just say, ‘Sir, let’s start shooting.’ That was the time. It was so easy because I had to do it from my heart,” she said, adding that she feels “blessed and grateful” to have been approached for the role.

The actor then spoke candidly about her childhood and the insecurities she carried for years. “When I used to change schools all the time, there were some insecurities. I used to feel underconfident,” she said. Mrunal admitted that it took her a long time to accept herself fully. “Up until now…till the release of my film Son of Sardaar 2, I used to feel that way. I realised it took me a lot of time to accept that yes, I am beautiful the way I am. And I’m just so proud of myself with the way I am.”

She also addressed the pressure to conform to beauty standards, particularly in the entertainment industry. “There was so much noise around, everyone thought, look perfect, do this body, do that, look like this, manicure, pedicure, pretend, just cross your legs. No, man. I’m just perfectly imperfect and I love that,” she said to loud applause.

Connecting her personal growth to the film, Mrunal said her intention is for audiences to see themselves in the story. “Through this movie, I just want to let the audience know that this film is for you. You will be able to resonate with it. When you watch that film, sitting in that seat, you should feel like you’re a part of that movie,” she said.

Do Deewane Seher Mein stars Mrunal Thakur opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi and is positioned as a heartfelt romantic drama about everyday relationships and what it takes to make romance flourish.
