LA based songwriter and artist Natania Lalwani, originally from Mumbai, has been making headlines for being a part of the team that created the ‘Smurfs’ movie soundtrack. Signed with Roc Nation and the South Asian music label Desi Trill, Lalwani and other Desi Trill artists, including Subhi, worked together on the film’s music.
Lalwani has worked with several notable artists on singles, such as Tyla’s “Everything Goes With Blue” and Nick Jonas’ “Maan Meri Jaan/Afterlife”, along with music on television shows such as “Four More Shots Please”. We spoke with Lalwani about her musical journey and how her career started, her experience working on television shows and singles, as well as what it was like to be a part of the ‘Smurfs’ movie music team. She also shares one of her favorite fan interactions on social media!
Lalwani has blended Indian and Western music and beats together to create a unique sound that has opened the path for her on several projects. She has several upcoming singles and projects coming out over the next few months that she describes as “very different” from her previous songs, and she credits Desi Trill for giving her the opportunity to always go out of her comfort zone in her sound.
