Los Angeles based Indian singer-songwriter Subhi has joined the music team for ‘Smurfs’ and lent her songwriting capabilities for the film’s soundtrack.

Born in Delhi, Subhi infuses Punjabi film and Indian classical music into her music. Starting in the corporate world, Subhi decided to follow her passion and quit her full-time job to travel to Mumbai for creative work. From there, Subhi performed with Grammy-winning band Shakti, and pop star Ali Sethi on their tours.

We spoke with Subhi about her musical journey, being a part of South Asian music label Desi Trill, and working on the Smurfs soundtrack with some of her Desi Trill colleagues.

Signed with Desi Trill, which was founded by Ty Ty Smith and Shabz Naqvi, Subhi is creating a new sound that blends Indian and Western music together. It was Smith who brought Subhi to the Smurfs soundtrack, and she worked on it alongside another Desi Trill artist Natania.
