Korean alternative rock band Catch The Young is making bold moves in 2025 with the release of their first-ever instrumental track, “The Young Wave”—a pre-release single from their upcoming full-length album. This release marks their second of the year, following their January remake of the ’90s Mono classic “You, Always.”

But this time, they’re doing something different. Entirely composed and arranged by the band themselves, “The Young Wave” breaks new ground as Catch The Young’s first purely instrumental piece. Through this expressive track, the band paints a vivid emotional landscape: the exhilaration of a boy racing toward someone he loves, the breathtaking first encounter, and the surge of feelings that follow.

“The reason why we came up with the title ‘The Young Wave’ is that the song itself gives the impression of sailing the sea,” explains Sani, the band’s bassist and leader. “We avoided repeating the main theme at the end because we wanted to suggest that our journey—and our challenges—are just beginning.”

Ahead of the track’s release, fans were treated to a striking music video teaser shared across the group’s social media channels. The teaser follows vocalist Namhyun through a quiet forest of abandoned buildings before bursting into color and energy as the band performs. The cinematography reflects the song’s mysterious rock tone and experimental structure, giving each instrument a spotlight within what feels like a modern-day rock symphony.

With this unexpected choice of an instrumental as a pre-release single, Catch The Young is not only stretching their own artistic boundaries but also hinting at a broader evolution for K-Rock on the global stage. The track has already drawn attention from critics for its cinematic storytelling and bold arrangement.

“The track begins boldly and proactively,” wrote music critic Lim Heeyun. “A clear arpeggio on the piano sets the stage, soon joined by a marching-style drum roll, while the bass guitar gradually closes in harmony with the guitar riff. […] At this point, my curiosity for the live performance of ‘The Young Wave’ only grows stronger. Hopefully, this instrumental journey by Catch The Young will continue with a Part 2 and Part 3 in the future.”

Who Are Catch The Young?

Catch The Young is a South Korean five-member band signed under Evermore Entertainment. Since their debut on November 1, 2023, with their mini album Fragments of Youth, the band has carved out a niche they call Youth Pop-Rock—a fusion of vibrant rock energy, layered vocal harmonies, and introspective themes centered on youth.

The members—Sani, Kihoon, Namhyun, Junyong, and Jungmo—have quickly become a rising force in the Korean music scene. Within their first year, they hit major stages at the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival and Jeonju Ultimate Music Festival in 2024.

Now, as they set their sights on an international stage with plans for a full album, promotions in Japan, and tours across the Americas and Europe, “The Young Wave” feels like both a bold statement and an invitation. The message is clear: Catch The Young is not just riding the wave—they’re creating it.
