Director Pooja Kaul and lead actor Zayn Marie Khan walked the red carpet at the New York Indian Film Festival as the film was going to be screened on the third day.
‘The Umesh Chronicles’ details a map of the past and looks at creating a sketch of the future.
When asked about what it meant for the film to be screened at the festival, Khan expressed, “I think it’s perfect because I think that this film has a global reach, and Indians in every part of the world will really resonate with it, and feel very emotional when they watch it.”
We also asked Khan what she felt like the film brings to the South Asian diaspora, and she explained that “Our film looks at where we’ve come from, and what we’ve lost, not just as an Indian population, but that the entire world has lost.”
Kaul also shared how she came about the story and concept behind ‘The Umesh Chronicles’, and the effort it took behind creating the script.
“I felt a real need to tell the story of middle class, urban educated India, because that’s not something I had felt was told before in all its complexity.”
Kaul went on to explain that part of the film’s concept is to show the formative experiences one has that create the person they are.
