Actress Pratibha Ranta is ruling the screen with her recent release ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which has arrived on Netflix after a theatrical release, and ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, which premiered on Netflix on May 1.
Ranta earlier worked in television shows like ‘Qurbaan Hua’ before getting the lead role in the Kiran Rao directorial ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which follows the story of two young brides who get lost (physically and metaphorically) on a train ride after their marriages. Viewers are impressed with Ranta’s performance in the film, as she represents how women are often told to suppress their own dreams to fulfill their role as wives.
Ranta is also playing the role of Shama in ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, a courtesan in Heeramandi who is also the grand-daughter of Mallikajaan. She brings level of depth to a nuanced character of someone who both despises yet loves her mother (who is played by Sanjeeda Sheikh).
