Ali Merchant, a popular actor known for TV and web roles, will soon lead in a Bollywood film produced by Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s brother. He expressed sadness over the supposed death of his friend Poonam Pandey, who faked her passing for a cervical cancer awareness campaign. This revelation upset Ali and others, leading him to share his thoughts on the matter.
Ali shares his initial reaction when he heard Poonam Pandey faked her death for cervical cancer awareness, says,
”I was utterly disgusted by the sheer insensitivity towards the actual cancer survivors.”
Ali shares his thoughts on how Poonam’s unique approach affected public awareness of cervical cancer says,
“I feel she used this subject only for her benefit. She used the public sentiment to get some temporary fame.”
Ali also shares how people around him reacted when they believed Poonam had passed away, and how has it changed now. He says,
”Most of them couldn’t believe she passed away of cancer as she looked healthy just a few days ago and cancer affects physical and mental health drastically. Now they feel people in our industry will go to any lengths just for the clout.”
Ali shares his opinion on how he could advise Poonam on a different approach to cervical cancer awareness, what would it be Ali says,
“She should have gone to the government schools and spread awareness among the young girls with the help of NGOs or using her social media to talk about the disease instead of pretending to be dead.”
