What ZEE5 has to say about their launch:

“The United States represents our most significant market and the last bastion in our global journey as we launch an ad-free subscription service. As a global media conglomerate, we have had a very deep connection with our diaspora audiences in the U.S., so it is a rather happy moment for me to now be bringing this audience the largest aggregation of South Asian content on a single platform through ZEE5,” said Amit Goenka, President, Digital Businesses & Platforms, ZEE Entertainment.

Urban Asian also spoke to Archana Anand, ZEE5’s Chief Business Officer, who offered us some insight into ZEE5’s launch process.

What sets Zee5 apart from other South Asian streaming services currently available in the US?

ZEE5 is the only streaming platform globally to offer over 130,000 hours of South Asian content – double that of anyone else in this space. We’re also aggressively acquiring and adding new content; there’s a really exciting lineup of shows and movies that we will unveil on June 22nd. We also have the largest catalogue of content across a range of 12 Indian languages. This includes Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, and Punjabi, with key content dubbed/subtitled in English, thereby catering to the diverse Indian language speaking communities in the U.S. In addition, we’re building out a wide range of partnerships that will enable us to directly reach these different communities with our content. We’re also planning to reach out to the student community. These plans again will be a part of the June 22nd announcement.

How long has your team been planning this launch? How is this particular launch significant / different from launches in other countries?

Our US plan has been in the pipeline for several months now. We’ve been working across teams to ensure that everything is aligned for the launch. With over 5.4M South Asians, the U.S. is the largest and most significant international market for ZEE5. This is one we are extremely excited about. We’re really looking forward to kicking off numerous plans for this market and building out deep connections with audiences here. We have extremely aggressive plans for the market and intend on becoming the foremost platform for South Asian content by year end. Our fabulous content plans and partnerships will be a key part of that and we look forward to sharing all these updates on June 22nd.

What can you tell us about the virtual launch event on June 22nd?

Additionally, we’ll be talking about our plans for the market, what makes this launch special, our partnerships and more. The event will be streamed publicly on all of our social handles (a special link will be provided for press). We look forward to having you there!
