While in conversation with UrbanAsian, producer Deepshikha Deshmukh opens up about how she is spending her quarantine days, about motherhood, about her fun-time with kids and more.

How are you spending your quarantine days?

– I am  spending a lot of time with my family – this is real quality time and enjoying every bit of it. Am working from home as well and also home-schooling my children.  Earlier, since my work commitments took so much of my time. I never got to spending long spells with with my family during the day but now I do and it is the best feeling in the world.

During this time a lot of songs are being made and released about fighting the pandemic and staying positive – do you feel they are motivating the public?

– Music plays a very important role in  our lives, and because we are locked down it’s so much easier to reach out to people. Without doubt,  listening to patriotic songs and inspirational songs is a good source of motivation. Recently Jackky , launched the song “Muskurayega India” and it got tremendous love from everyone in the country.  We, in India find ways and reasons to celebrate and it is a good thing because it helps to keep positivity. Music uplifts and helps the mind and body to feel good.

Once this lockdown gets over what is that one thing that you are going to do?

– As soon as the lockdown gets over, I will go for a long walk outdoors. Or may be a long drive also. I want to actually go out for the day, feel the sun, the breeze and fresh air. Am looking forward to the day when the situation gets better and the world becomes healthier.

As it is Mother’s day today, I just want to know what is the most surprising thing about becoming a mom?

– Patience, when you become a mother, you learn the value of patience. You begin to understand the pain your own mother took when you were a baby. I also feel a new mother has tremendous capacity to love and nurture and that  she realises the second she  holds her baby in her arms for the first time.  Patience and love are two virtues that accompany motherhood.

What is the best lesson your mom gave you that you remember till now?

– My mother taught us to be kind and good to every one and that is the culture we were brought up on. My mother is an extremely kind person and someone I would call good natured. She does good things silently, never makes a song and dance about it for the world to know. But she was very certain about instilling ‘kindness’ in my brother and me all through our formative years.

What’s the cutest thing that your kids do that makes you smile?

– We have this little thing called the monkey hug, where they hug me tight. I would do anything for that hug – it takes away my worries and makes me smile. Any stress I am going through simply vanishes after the hug. Anything that I am going through mentally is all washed away when my kids hug me. Even thinking of their hug when I am not around them lighten me up.

How do you maintain different roles that you play in life like working, being a mother, a wife, a daughter. How do you balance all of it?

– It’s not all that easy but not difficult either. I make a schedule and follow it. It helps me balance and schedule my activities and that is something I am immensely proud of.  Timing my self and slotting work according to relevance in the morning or night before  gives me a  perspective that I need and that sorts my day. I think most working mothers would be scheduling their activities in the day to keep balance.

What is that one thing you want this Mother’s day?

– We are first-time parents, so we don’t really know if we are doing it right. I just hope that my kids become kind people who are loving and compassionate towards people and the environment. I just want my kids to be happy, that is the most important thing to me and am sure that is a gift every mother would want.

You have made our quarantine by giving us some amazing films to watch. Is there any project that Pooja Entertainment have been planning for or working on?

– There are several projects that we are working on, a lot of scripting work is going on, and I think this lockdown has given the writers considerable time to sit and think over new ideas, so there is a lot of brainstorming happening on that front. Really good stories will be coming out very soon.

A message that you would like to give to the people on staying safe and positive during these trying times?

– I know it is tough, I know it can get really draining and you can be full of emotions at this time but I would say use this time to follow some hobbies that you always liked, Dive into some old book, listen to music, please use this time for yourself and look at the bright side. Try and listen to the better news in the days of lockdown.
