Karan Vishwanath Kashyap On Priyaank Sharma And Riva Kishan

Sab Kushal Mangal, a fun-filled film packed with laughs & good vibes is all set to release this Friday. During a recent chat with director Karan Vishwanath Kashyap, he discussed the transformative role being played by Akshaye Khanna & the two debutants Priyaank Sharma and Riva Kishan being introduced to the world through this film.

On being asked how Akshaye came onboard, he said,

“Akshaye was the first one to hear the script & come on board as he believed in the potential of this film on the page. He was the driving engine to get this film started & he got Prachi Manmohan on board as Producer, having worked with her previously & his great relationship with Nitin Manmohan.”

When asked if Priyaank and Riva were cast because of their film background, the director replied,

“I get that question a lot. Look, The pictures of Priyaank & Riva came through someone but I was certain that if they didn’t fit the characters, I wouldn’t cast them. I was also lucky in that Prachi & Akshaye 100% backed me on this & they respected my creative vision.

People need to realize that this film wasn’t handed to Priyaank & Riva on a silver platter after I saw their auditions, I saw potential but I told them a lot of work needs to be done. We did workshops with them for months before the cameras rolled. In fact, I had given them an ultimatum that if they don’t become the characters of Pappu Mishra & Mandira, they would not do the film.”

“It’s funny to talk about now because everything worked out, but they knew I was serious then.”

Karan who has experience working in super hits like Bunty Aur Babli, Bluffmaster, Don, Lakshya, Dil Chahta Hai, Chak De India & Raavan, ensured that both the actors get acquainted with their character well for which they were asked to travel in trains, auto rickshaws & mingled with people outside their friend circle.

“I wanted them to come out of their comfort zones since the film is based in a small town & these characters are small-town people. I must say, that both my actors have worked very hard & given it their best. No complaints, no questions, just single-minded determination & work. Seeing them on screen, you wouldn’t realize both of them were born & brought up in Mumbai. For that, I give full props to them.”
