Born Bhanurekha Ganesan, this gorgeous beauty is better known by her stage name Rekha. The talented powerhouse is a part of the Indian film industry for over 50 years now. She is the recipient of a National Award (Umrao Jaan – 1981) and Padma Shri (2010).

With her acting in more than a hundred films, we bring you a few in which Rekha literally stole our hearts and breaths away.

Khubsoorat (1980)

Rekha as the fun, spirited and playful girl not only won over the entire Gupta family but, Rekha also won the Filmfare Best Actress Award.

Umrao Jaan (1981)

Rekha, as the young courtesans in a brothel in Lucknow, was awe-worthy. The grace and poise with which she essayed the role are still praiseworthy. For those who haven’t watched this film yet, do so, else your missing on one of the best movies of Bollywood.

Silsila (1981)

In this drama, Rekha played the part of the heartbroken with the perfection that our hearts too broke. The loss of losing her love and later being back with him was beautifully told, thanks to the awesome performance of Rekha.

Khoon Bhari Maang (1988)

This revenge drama saw Rekha come back to post a crocodile attack and avenge her death as well as the torture inflicted on her children and dear one.

Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988)

In this family drama, we saw Rekha play an illiterate village girl who manages to marry a rich boy and move to the city with him and win over all his family members. The ease with which she played Shalu is one of the plus points of the film.

Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996)

As the criminal don Maya, Rekha proved that even if she plays a grey character she can shine. Rekha received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award as well as the Star Screen Award Best Villain for this film.

Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996)

As the teacher who teaches Kama Sutra – the ancient art of seduction and lovemaking, – Rekha shone and helped both the leading ladies (one directly and the other indirectly) understand life better.

Lajja (2001)

She only had minimum time on screen but she still manages to captivate the audience with her stellar performance as the midwife Ramdulaari. The scene in which she is burnt alive still hurts.

Koi… Mil Gaya (2003)

We all remember her as Mrs. Mehra, the mother of a mentally disabled child (Hrithik Roshan). The manner in which she brings him up as a single parent is commendable.
