“Only Acceptance Can Make Peace Prevail”- Soumita Saha. The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. “Climate Action for Peace” is the theme for celebrating the International Day of Peace this year. Climate change causes clear threats to international peace and security. Natural disasters displace three times as many people as conflicts, forcing millions to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The salinization of water and crops is endangering food security, and the impact on public health is escalating. The growing tensions over resources and mass movements of people are affecting every country on every continent. Peace can only be achieved if concrete action is taken to combat climate change. International Singing sensation Soumita who always preferred to be vocal about various social issues and motivated the youth to pay attention to social issues said

“The time we are going through is not what ideal utopia looks or feels like. Acceptance and respect towards each other is the only way to keep the flame of peace and non-violence ablaze. This international day of peace let’s accept ideologies, people, communities the way they are.

It’s a day to lay down our weapons in every conflict, from full-on wars to personal spats, and promote the ideals of peace, love and harmony.”

In a candid conversation, the young and talented singer added “ Peace is certainly mandatory for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Ours is the land of harmony, the flag bearer of unity in diversity. The key to maintain peace is unconditional compassion and acceptance. It is our responsibility to keep the flame of peace and harmony ablaze. It is our responsibility to prove that “Unity and diversity” is not a myth. Only acceptance can make Peace prevail.
